Obama statement on the execution of Saddam Hussein
U.S. Senator Barack Obama today released the following statement on the execution of Saddam Hussein:
"Today the Iraqi people have found justice in the death of a dictator who brutalized, tortured, and killed thousands of innocent men, women, and children. But to find the lasting peace that has eluded their nation since his downfall, the Iraqi leadership and the government must work harder to find a political solution to their burgeoning civil war so that Saddam's iron-handed brutality is not replaced by endless chaos, conflict and bloodshed."

December 29, 2006
"Saddam Hussein was a brutal tyrant and murderous dictator. Now it is time for the people of Iraq to work to reconcile their differences and to heal the wounds of the past. Only that process will end the violence that has prevented Iraq from moving forward."
