How much more transparent could this be? The "surge" isn't headed to Iraq, it's targeted at Iran. All this talk about more troups in Iraq is just a cover story. I don't hear much talk about aircraft carriers headed towards Iraq, either.

Just my 2 cents. If you agree, please RECOMMEND! It only takes one click.

3. LOL!
Anyone who thinks 30,000 soldiers and some aircraft carriers can take Iran is freaking out of his mind.

Let's see, you propose that we take 140,000 exhausted soldiers and used, inadequate equipment plus our carriers plus the 30,000 scrounged from god knows where and attack an armed nation which has not been at war for years?

This idea is so nutty it belongs in a Christmas fruitcake.

5. Anyone who thinks 20,000 troops is all that is needed ....
to 'invade' or 'attack' Iran isnt familiar with mathematics ....

Cmon .... 20,000 soldiers, comparatively speaking, is a drop in the bucket of the ocean of troops that WOULD be needed if Iran were the target ....

6. Quite true. But...
...the nutjobs running this country might think 20,000 or so is just the number needed to bolster our troops in Iraq when they bomb Iran.

7. Iran has the eighth largest military in the world.
They have 545,000 active duty; 350,000 reserves; and 12 million paramilitary. More importantly, their weapons are probably more sophisticated than any we have ever faced.

You are correct to infer that the neocons would love to attack Iran. Or to put it more accurately, to have other people attack Iran while they and their children safely watch on teevee. But if these are all the forces we would be sending, they would be effective only in watching mushroom clouds from a distance.

9. I would enjoy a
discussion with you on what weapons Iran has that are technologically advanced. I am fairly familiar with the Iranian force structure and I am not impressed. Granted we could not defeat them with "the surge" but still they do not impress me.

12. I refer mostly to their missiles
While Iran's overall military is no hollow shell like Iraq's was when we last invaded, their general armament is probably not sophisticated by our standards except for their missiles.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Iran

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%27s_missile_forces

Iran produces some of these missiles locally, but continues to obtain the more advanced ones from Russia.

http://www.iranian.ws/iran_news/publish/article_19949.shtml

It is possible that some of these missiles might be highly effective in sinking our ships from long ranges.

8. The surge is directed at IRAQ
at the Mehdi Army specifically and will have one job, destroy the Mehdi Army and kill or capture Moqtada Al Sadr. It is folly to envision 140,000 troops plus 30,000 surged troops would invade or attack Iran. The US would surge to kill the Mehdi Army..........

10. Some facts
The president cannot order an extended attack on any nation without the consent of the Congress. That is simply put the president cannot declare war on his own. He is limited to calling for small strikes against a foreign nation in the name of national security. Beyond that he has to go to Congress and ask for permission. He may be the commander in chief but its our damn army and the Congress controls its financing and use.

Now ask yourself exactly how he is going to get the Democratically controlled Congress to green light an extended attack on Iran.
