1. Conveniently next to an "Airline Security" news item.

No . . . no cognitive association going on there.

22. Beetwasher, you're doubled down on my buddy list. You did the impossible.

My respect for the corproate media, which could go no lower, actually has as a result of this confirmation.
What is their major malfunction? Too many pages for this forum;) - and that's a lot of pages.

Fox did it and now this. It's like those voting machine "errors" - they are not errors and everybody
knows it. They always go in one direction, Republican. Now what is the CM up to - programming,
psyops. Obama better go to school real quick. This is just the start.

Thanks for getting back. :yourock:

4. This is beyond stupid! This cannot possibly, at this late date, be
attributed to "error"! This is the silliest, most juvenile, bullshit I have ever seen! What is wrong with these media morons? They can't get a simple name correct? After it has been pointed out over and over again? This is so ridiculous that it is almost - almost - funny. Senator Obama is going to have to start suing companies for huge bucks to make this stop. It is regrettable that he has to do it, but taking money away from these filthy fuckers will be the only way to make this stop...

6. I'm not a lawyer, but I think you have to prove deliberate intent
& they're pretty careful to make sure it looks inadvertent. I also don't think that you can easily make a case out of patterns of repeated "errors"--for sure not when it's across outlets. I.e., "errors" by Fox or CNN wouldn't have any bearing in a lawsuit against Yahoo.

10. Intent -- or malicious neglect to check for the facts. Both work in
defamation suits.

23. "malicious" requires intent, too
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 09:37 PM by G Hawes
Error does not equate to malice.

But jesus, you'd think they'd get it right after CNN already had to issue a formal apology.

Edit to add: it looks like they've fixed it as it's showing a photo of Ayman al-Zawahri on the Yahoo page now.

11. Neither silly or juvenile. It's media mind control. It's fucking criminal.
If they can get the Iranian presidents name right, these fuckers can disseminate between a US Senator and A World Class Terrorist.

20. Vocabulary Police Alert:
I think you mean "discriminate."

Nevertheless, I agree entirely with your major point, that it is "mind control." Unfortunately, it's probably not criminal.

Just like identifying Foley as a Dem when talking about his page transgressions & any number of other little tricks they pull--they establish an unconscious linkage in the viewer while retaining deniability about it being an accident. They are playing with well-known psychological laws of association here.

9. I think he could sue for libel
This looks pretty damn intentional to me. If I was on a jury, I would rule in favor of Obama in such a case. I think it would be in poor taste to grab money like that, so I would hope that he would donate it to a good cause.

15. Forgive me
I can't disabuse myself of the naive notion that Obama has integrity and that he will do things differently than other politicians.

Despite the moral objections I stated earlier, I would enjoy the irony of Obama paying for his presidential bid with money from the MSM.

16. I am not sure why Obama's "integrity" would be questioned if he
sued a corporation for that corporation's actions and then kept the damages money. Why would that be damaging to his integrity? Would the suit not be legitimate? Would Obama be somehow dishonest in his brining of the suit? I am not being snarky, I really don't understand how this would hurt his integrity.

21. People would take it as either a publicity stunt or a money grab
I think these stations are defaming him, but even bringing that suit against a company would bring bad press. It's never good for one's campaign to attack the media. As heinous as the MSM companies are, they are essential to electoral victory.

17. Oh that was SNEAKY!! This is not a mistake people.
Yahoo did this deliberate. The subject of the article is how CNN mixed up Osama and Barack Obama and then apologized. They put the subject of the article under Obama's picture.

Yahoo can now just say we all just misunderstood while at the same time furthering the goal of getting the two mixed up in people's minds.

Sneak city. Sickening.

18. OMG, they are really trying, aren't they?
Appearing on Oprah, and being rather attractive, and with his attractive wife, probably helped a lot though. A lot of the otherwise truly ignorant will know who he is.

The best way to fight this would appear to make sure most Americans know who he is so that they, like us, recognize the mistake so that subliminal messages are less effective. Which would involve maximum visibility. Maybe a tour with Madonna? LOL. Appearing with famous football players or baseball players could help. Nascar drivers. Show up on Oprah again, appear in a soap opera or on whatever the highest rated sitcom is.
