Watching the Deval Patrick Inauguration: Kennedy and Kerry aren't there ?
I know it's a state government issue but you'd figure one of them would make an appearance.

3. Today's the day the new congress is inaugurated. They're on the job
DC is several hundred miles away from Boston. I'm sure they sent flowers, but the job always comes first

4. First day of the Senate as well.
Kennedy needed to be sworn in at exactly the same time as Patrick was sworn in and they need to be present to vote. The absence of Johnson does not allow any other senators to be absent today.

6. Kennedy is being sworn in himself and Kerry
who is the other senator must be with him. If you notice, even tho one being sworn in is democrat the other senator is there.
