Why does the message of "Sacrifice" never apply to the rich?

McCain was just on TV talking about the sacrifice that America is going to have to make by sending in more troops to Iraq and "how it may be an unpopular thing to ask but it is necessary." This struck me, and I thought "Why do we never ask the same sacrifice from the rich?" Politicians ask the lower and middle classes to send their sons and daughters into dangerous resources where they might be killed all the time, as if they were some sort of commodity. When it comes to raising taxes on the rich though it's a bridge too far.

Why is it acceptable to risk to lives of the poor to protect national interests, but never acceptable to ask the rich to give more of their mountainous wealth to do the same?

Rich people can't get mussy, should not be subject to laws or government oversight. Its the way or forefathers wanted it to be; just listen to any "conservative" scholar on the radio.

and maybe this country will be able to follow the excellent example our French brethren set for us during their Revolution. They knew how to "ask the rich to give more of their mountainous wealth," all right, and perhaps just a little bit extra here and there. The lives of the poor and middle-class citizens are NOT less worthy than the accumulated wealth of the rich. :evilgrin:

They believe it's alright for them to send us off on grunt and dangerous duties because we are just like little rodents and cockroaches to them who don't matter.

And I also wonder, what is the EXACT reward troops get for this sacrifice? Do the rich ever raise a finger without knowing exactly what they will get in return? Hell no... nothing they do is without a profit motive. They think we are just simple rodents who don't care about these things.

If they have to sacrifice their wealth, then it is just wasted. On stupid government projects with no over-sight and all the money just goes to welfare cheats. That never happens in this war because all the contracts are given to scrupulously honest companies like Haliburton which are overseen by strict accountants like Arthur Anderson. Plus, it is just so unfair to ask people to sacrifice the dividend income that their employees have worked so hard to create. Nobody would want to be a CEO or a professional baseball player or movie star if they did not get to keep all of the millions that they earn. Atlas would just shrug and the world would fall to misery. Haven't you seen the movie "It's a Rich life" where the angel Beelzebub shows what Bedford Falls would be like if Potter had never been born? They show it every Halloween. Don't you remember how miserable everyone was without Potter to collect all the rent and own all the businesses? If Wal-mart heirs had to pay taxes on their income, they would be forced to reduce wages and benefits and the only way they could still offer low prices would be to get all their merchandise from China, which would devastate US manufacturing jobs. You wouldn't want that to happen, would you?

They have to sacrifice workers in their plants, and sometimes have to pay replacements more after they fire people for missing work due to National Guard duty being a target in Baghdad. You just lack empathy. Think how much it must pain them to sign those paychecks.

These two quotations are alike in their mock show of concern for human suffering, and in their cynical remedy for it: Big Brother must prevent the `` unworthy '' or `` unwanted '' people from living.
