4. Ya mean the "liberal" media won't even try?
If the mainstream media was as liberal as the RW's say it is - they would be screaming for THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE!

7. Their new conglomerate bosses
see the news cycle as more of an advertising medium and profit center now. Real journalism might get in the way of media favorable legislation and tax cuts

11. No kidding - corpmedia stayed quiet about worker's overtime pay rules when it was

an issue because THEY had so many regular employees who would be effected, so they clammed up while GOPs rammed it through. No problem for the upper management or bigname newsies, while everyone who works the daily grind in newsrooms lost anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000 a year that they would normally get in overtime pay.

2. It needs to be reinstated at the very least
The Dems can only push so far if the media is still enemy territory. Anything positive can be made to seem negative if you control the frame by which the people see it. And as long as Conservatives and Corporations cast their long shadows on the media then the Dems will fight a struggle against multiple fronts.

3. Cable and Ronald Reagan killed it. I'd like it back, at least for the
'free' networks. Of course, there's no incentive....those guys barely have news divisions.

5. i think reinstatement of the fairness doctrine is priority one..
it's impossible to get the word out the way the media is set up these days. More people would be willing to support their proposals once Dems are actually able to get their message out there.

6. Can Congress do anything about the Fairness Doctrine?
It's my understanding that this falls under the domain of the FCC. Is it even possible for Congress to do anything except hold hearings?

8. I don't think you need to worry about that. You've got some of the
smartest and most purposeful and committed politicians in the world in the box seat now, looking after your interests.

And nobody knows better than them that an appreciable measure of honest, unbiased reporting MUST replace the partisan lies and misrepresentations under the Republicans' aegis. All politicians' know that it is of paramount importance to themselves, as well as to the people, not to have a partisan, national media biased against them, whatever the country.

Just now on CNN, that sugary, faux Santa figure, Bill Schneider - being Bill Schneider - pointed out that no mention was made of issues such as medicare, national insurance, etc, because they were too big. Instead they spoke about the smaller issues they could do something about!!!!!! Not, ".... do something about now, leaving the larger issues for later", as he should have said.
