Am I the only one dumbfounded by the Repubs in Congress
singing the song of "Bipartisanship"? I spent about an hour on the raod this afternoon listening to NPR--solid politics. Interviewing pols all over the place. And every damned Repub they talked to warning the Democrats that they HAD to be 'bipartisan'. Damned if those bastards ever were! It was that Rethug bag of shit, Grover Norquist that was quoted in the Denver Post : "Bipartisanship is another name for date rape." The Repubs lived by that maxim for 12 years. Now they expect the Dems to do what they never did. Astounding!

1. Payback: For the next 12 years, they should give the Republicans...
...what they got for the past 12 years.

Starting in 2018, the House Democrats should consider being bi-partisan, if they're still in the majority.

29. The most "bipartisan" decision of American voters has been to TOTALLY REJECT the GOP regime....
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 11:26 PM by charles t

As Robert Parry so eloquently wrote this morning, not only the Democratic base, but large numbers of independents, moderates, libertarians and even traditional conservatives voted BI-PARTISANLY to throw out the GOP regime and GOP policy:

The Democratic leaders don’t even seem capable of mounting a spirited fight against Bush’s plan to escalate the Iraq War despite the clear will of the voters, the recommendations of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, and the advice of Bush’s own military commanders.

If the congressional Democrats don’t change their ways soon, they will have alienated not only much of their own base but many of the independents and traditional conservatives who hoped the Democrats could rise above their old-fashioned interest-group politics.

A promising opportunity for a new national unity – derived from the founding principles of the nation – will have been squandered.

The American people have given a BI-PARTISAN mandate:

1. End the war, and pursue moral and effective foreign policy
2. Restore checks and balances
3. Reign in an out-of-control presiddent
4. Restore civil liberties

True "bi-partisanship" calls for honoring that mandate from all the voters. this Democratic Congress was elected because substantial numbers of normally Republican voters wanted Republican abuses STOPPED and REVERSED.

Those who call for selling out and compromising with un-regenerate Republicans (and de facto Republican, faux-Democrats such as Liberman) are attempting to sabatage the BIPARTISAN MANDATE to throw the bums out.

If the Bush administration continues on its present course (and it shows every indication that it will not only not respond to the bi-partisan will of the American people, but will continue to up the ante will escalation on all fronts), the most genuinely "bi-partisan" and patriotic action this Congress can take is IMPEACHMENT.

This is the party that attacked the war record of the Dem presidential candidate when their own presidential candidate made Sgt. Bilko look like Sgt. Rock. They operate entirely through smoke and mirrors, and the only reason they ever got away with it is that there was nobody in the media with enough cojones to call them on their bullshit.

6. The Dems should let the Republicans have one pet bill a month, and that's all...
The Dems should completely lock the Republicans out at least until we get everything that we need passed--and all the awful shit the Republicans passed in the past 12 years repealed--and then throw the Republicans a small bone by allowing them one pet Republican bill a month. I can only imagine the infighting that would take place when they have to compromise among themselves for what those single bills would be: do they try something moderate, to suck up to middle voters but lose credibility with their extreme base; or do they try for some extreme and divisive bill that panders to their Freeper base?

I know this would be totally impractical, but I think it would be a fun show, nevertheless. ;-)

7. Exactly!
I have been watching them for the past few days and today I have missed a lot but,the garbage that they are trying to spin is ridiculous. They seem to have some very short memories, and Tucker Carlson,O'lielly ,and Slannity are as silly as they come, they are trying to find anything to discredit the Dems. Where were they these past six years... So far I haven't seen any Dems backing down.

by all the talk about bipartisanship in the first place. I think we should give what they gave us for the last 12 years; up or down folks, no add ons! Why is it that we have to be so understanding?

We may need to send some paper spines in the mail to our Democrats in Congress to remind some them what one looks like.

If they can't or will not do anything now we are in big trouble.

"Gentlewoman from North Carolina" (a republican) telling the Dems that they have to "Be" and not just "seem". Rebuking the Dems, telling them they cannot do things behind closed doors. What a bunch of baloney. The Repukes kept the doors locked for 12 years, and NOW they want things different?

26. Their collective sour-pusses in Congress today.....
made it unmistakable which side of the aisle the camera was focusing on. That, and the lack of color the Republicans reveled, as compared to the Democratic side where the eye caught color in clothing (women) and color in skin (minorities). It was an instant visual representation of the differences between the Parties.

I was watching the Repuke's 'Truth Squad' tonight (like they would know truth if they saw it). They were bitching and moaning on the floor of the House about how it wasn't fair they didn't get to do amendments to any of the initial legislation, blah, blah, blah..... Talk about a bunch of freaking hypocrites! It was just cracking me up.

their mess to share responsibility for the consequences. The bipartisanship mantra is a cover for suckering the dems into sharing the blame.
