Something I noticed in the House today
When the cameras panned the Democratic side of the room, we saw men, women, young, old, black, white, brown, etc. We saw AMERICA!

When the cameras panned the GOP side of the room, we saw nothing but old, white men.

The contrast was very striking. It said a lot about both parties.

5. I thought he looked bit larger than usual today

Look at that picture ... there's a woman sitting next to him. I didn't notice her today. She must have gotten lost in the sea of gray testosterone! ;-)

2. that is what the parties are:
The dems have always been the party of the everyman
The gop have always been the party of the white male country clubbers with martinis.

4. I agree and I hope
that Nancy gives in to C-SPAN's request for more cameras and the ability to do more panning of the chamber rather than just the static picture they usually broadcast now. We need to be able to see ALL of the action in the chamber like we did today, imho.

9. It's amazing that party can even exist in this country.
There's really no legitimate reason for it.

14. It'd be a good party with more Goldwater types...
At least those people can be reasoned with rather than the RW crooks in there today.

15. Joy and Children. The Dems were happy, weren't afraid to show it,
and that's been lacking for too long.

17. the quadrennial conventions are the same way
You can tell the same thing on TV at the conventions:

The GOP confab....boring white guys in suits, boring white women in suits, talking heads, rich fat white guys.

The Democratic confab....white, black, brown, rich, middle, poor, immigrants, naturalized, people from all ethnic groups and social classes.

I grew up going to Democratic confabs as my parents were good liberals.

This is NOT news.

19. Of course it's not news to us ...
but think about it:

Today, history was made. A woman became Speaker of the House. I know people who aren't very interested in politics - they never watch C-SPAN or the conventions - but they were watching today. I'm sure there were plenty of people across the country who watched this sort of thing for the very first time. The stark contrast of those two pictures could not have been missed. :-)

20. another noticable thing is that Americans sure as hell know who the Speaker of the House is . . .
unlike when the Repugs were in power and most people didn't have a clue about whats-his-name . . .

remarking on how the chairs of the various committees reflect America better as well. The people do stand a chance now.

27. GOP kids are only used for photo-ops
Bring them out, snap the picture, put them away until the next election. :eyes:

No member of the GOP would EVER let children share the podium and touch the Speaker's gavel. That was an amazing moment! :-)
