I saw a lot of celebration on DU today. Been busy on a project with work so have not posted much today, but I did check in from time to time.
Today was a long time coming. And I am glad to see as well that people aren't planning on standing down just because dems are in power. We gave no quarter to the repugs, and we won't allow the people we worked so hard to get into power to squander it.
DU and DU'ers have been here day in and out, discussing, being active, and fighting for this day. Take a breather, and give yourselves a pat on the back for a job well done.
We kept DU afloat with our donations. Skinner, Elad, and the mods kept it all flowing and online. Through years of hell we never gave up.
Through the infighting over issues and candidates, we stayed and kept up the fight. We educated others, ourselves, and the lurkers.
We won't stop arguing over it all. From smoking to religion, from Hillary to Obama, to the DLC and greens. We will still have heated arguments - because we are passionate about how we feel on things. And that passion is the fuel for our engines.
We never gave up hope. We kept trying. There was no white flag waving coming from the progressives - only a deeper resolve to keep on fighting until we won.
And now we have a chance to see if those people we fought so hard for will deliver. And I sure as hell know we won't let em slide. Unlike the right, we are not robots who will sit by and make excuses for leaders who fail. We were damn serious about our desire for change - and we won't let up.
DU was, is, one place we could come to bitch about things and get it out of our system. And that release valve has been important.
So Kudos to you all for sticking it out, keeping DU funded, and keeping it well moderated.
We have been through a lot my friends - both politically and personally. But we stayed the course for each other, even when we disagreed.
As far as me: I am back at work and entrenched in some major projects. I am looking for a new job in California (am in Ohio now), and with any luck will be moving soon. My paychecks are still messed up (has to do with paperwork for FMLA on wife) but that may soon be fixed. If all goes well I will be out of Ohio and interviewing for tech jobs in CA by the end of the month (all the while finishing up big projects at work). So I will be in and out, and maybe not on here for days or weeks at a time.
So, while I have the time tonight, I wanted to say thanks - for being there over this last year. And keeping DU afloat and my sanity afloat as well.
Enjoy these next few weeks. We deserve it :)
