"Let god sort 'em out"...From my nutball sister
This was from a phone call after Saddam was hung. She asked and I mentioned I was against the death penalty. When I said a lot of wrongly convicted people have died she answered with 'Let god sort 'em out'. :wow:

I love my sister dearly. She is an avid animal lover, runs a farm and right now they're having a hell of a time with the mess in Nebraska and the government being nowhere for her and the kids.

But, geez, she thinks that they should have hangings out on the courthouse steps similar to the old west. :eyes:

I have no idea when or how her thinking got so damn screwed up.

HOUSTON — Police and family members said a 10-year-old boy who died by hanging himself from a bunk bed was apparently mimicking the execution of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Sergio Pelico was found dead Sunday in his apartment bedroom in the Houston-area city of Webster, said Webster police Lt. Tom Claunch. Pelico's mother told police he had previously watched a news report on Saddam's death.

"It appears to be accidental," Claunch said. "Our gut reaction is that he was experimenting."

An autopsy of the fifth-grader's body was pending.

Julio Gustavo, Sergio's uncle, said the boy was a happy and curious child.

He said Sergio had watched TV news with another uncle on Saturday and asked the uncle about Saddam's death.

"His uncle told him it was because Saddam was real bad," Gustavo said. "He said, 'OK.' And that was it."

Sergio's mother, Sara Pelico DeLeon, was at work Sunday while Sergio and other children were under the care of an uncle, Gustavo said. One of the children found Sergio's body in his bedroom.

2. Would your sister pay money for public executions on pay-per-view TV?
Some DUers, including myself, in a fit of frustration, have said that if Americans want the death penalty so bad, then they should be put out in the open for all of them to see the consequences of their actions. If they want to see a human life be snuffed out in brutal fashion, then maybe we would be better off on the list of countries that includes Saudi Arabia, China, North Korea, and other brutal, totalitarian regimes that practice the death penalty.

3. Your sister sounds very busy

and right now, at least, is going through a difficult time and plenty to deal with. I've found that when people have something that takes up a lot of their time they seem to lag in knowledge and understanding of a lot of the issues we talk about here. Simply because they lack the time to indulge, and if their life is demanding they tend to not read about "The Destruction of the Planet" in their leisure time.

That's putting it very simply, but I think it's true in most cases.

Of course you then have to factor in basic personalities. Some people are just never going to develop a real interest in things that don't have any direct bearing on their life. This isn't necessarily selfishness either. It's just the way they are. Just like some people are more sensitive than others. Some are happy-go-lucky, some aren't.

I understand your frustration though, really I do. I have to deal with it myself and I'm just sorta thinking out loud as to why they are like that and not like me.

on edit: I'm fully aware there are people here who have very demanding lives and manage to keep abreast of everything. I'm just saying not everyone has the ability to multitask very well and some just don't seem to have a "natural" inclination to ponder the world and national news of the day.
