So let me get this straight
So, the American Enterprise Institute goobers (based on something Jesus told them, apparently) think we can defeat and disarm all opponents in Iraq with 100,000 more troops, but we don't HAVE 100,000 more troops, so they decided, oh, what the hell, 35,000 would do it.

Meanwhile, all the military professionals are saying, the Iraqi Army can handle it (to the extent it gets handled); all we're doing is grinding the edge off our own Army, so let's hand it over and leave.

So, Bush's response is to SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE and send 20,000? Therefore increasing the likelihood of the worst of both options (higher casualties, failed turnover), with NO foreseeable chance of a successful outcome. Is it possible that Bush is an Al Qaeda mole?

I'm trying to think if there are any other candidates for Least Competent Commander in Chief Ever. James Madison did manage to let the Brits burn down the White House, but at least we won that war. LBJ had a legitimate opponent in the Soviets and Chinese, and was responding to aggression, not just picking a fight with somebody who tried to kill his daddy.

Hmm, Bush vs. Flavius Iulius Valens?
Bush vs. Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary?
Bush vs. Louis XVI?

1. To be very honest from a Combat Veteran it take a million troops
To even make a dent in the Iraq War. I sure don't want that

5. Monkeyman,
Glad to see you check in, hope you are doing okay. As to the post, I think everything is a trial balloon sent up to see what makes the least stink. They have no clue and are just trying to make it look like they have some kind of idea. Wait for some way to blame failure on dems.

Never ending global conflicts. :sarcasm:

Wake up American Patriots, a large chuck of change for these supplemental spending bills will be pissed away on the American War Machine Corporations. :(

You can be damned sure that they'll unleash "all they've got" on many innocents (oops! collateral damage, ya know) during their last gasp attempt to continue the occupation, or perhaps spur some conflict with Iran. That would be grand for the war profiteers, many of which serve in our Congress and Executive Branch.

As always, FOLLOW THE MONEY.

3. Keep your eyes on Bush`s prize.
Just because Bush levels a country, trashes our Constitution, ruins our Army, puts us into debt for decades to come and defiles our good name, that doesn`t mean he can`t tell himself he`s a hero.

4. Yes, you have that correct.
Remember one thing: Bush is the "Anti-matter Midas" - everything, EVERYTHING he touches turns to shit. If a project has a 99% chance of success, but the 1% chance of failure involves Bush in any way, shape or form, the project is doomed to failure and I'd bet serious money on it.

So, Bush taking the worst possible route is not at all surprising; Hell, it's par for the course!

6. A little like saying we must build a bridge but can only afford 100-feet
so we build a bridge halfway across the river. Wasteful and insane.

8. par for the course
Example:

Them: "2500 miles of border to the south - gonna put up a wall to keep 'them' out!"
Me: "You're gonna build a 2500-mile wall?"
Them: "No we're gonna put up 700 miles of fence."
Me: "I thought you needed a 2500-mile wall?"
Them: "Yes. We do!"
Me: "So your solution is to build a 700-mile fence?"
Them: "Yes!"

7. C'mon, be fair
Madison had help at Ft Washington when the HMFIC blew the magazines at the first sight of the British warships, which allowed the Brits to burn DC.

AFIK, you're spot on with the rest of it, and possibly ignored Iran.

9. A friend of mine just joined the Army
He is leaving for Ft. Leonard Wood next week. I have this terrible feeling that a year from now he'll be on his way to Iraq. I was against impeachment for a long time, but if this escalation happens, I'll start writing letters to House members asking them to send Conyers' Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.
