Here is the best scenario we can hope for on the Iraq War...
We are not going to win the war. So, we will start from there.

Bush wants more money and more troops. The new Congress should vote on it. Get them on record for the next election. There will be a few Democrats that will vote with the Repubs out of fear, but enough to pass the bill. Bush will get what he wants. Republicans will go along with him almost unanimously. Next year, the panic will set in. They will have to answer for their vote. You will see backtracking like you have never seen before. The majority of Democrats will have voted against the "surge" in troops and money but not enough to keep the Republicans from hanging themselves. This is the way I would envision this war and this Administration playing out...

1. Great political victory...
now if only the next 1000 to 2000 soldiers wouldn't die because of it... not to mention the next 20,000 wounded.
And then there are the Iraqis killed and wounded. And the increased (if that's possible now) hatred for the US around the world as a result of escalation of this war.

Always a fly in the ointment somewhere.

:sarcasm:

2. Give 'Em The Rope...They Didn't Get The Message The First Time
Not that I expected the Repugnicans to be humbled after the trouncing they got in November, but I'll be glad to help contribute to an even bigger thumping in '08...and Iraq will be what does it.

No, I don't want this ugly invasion and ocupation to continue one day longer. I wish your troops were home yesterday, however, boooshie is hellbent on fighting his personal war for profit to the bitter end and pass it on to the next President to figure out. His bent ego won't think of withdrawl and this escalation is a sign of beligerance...he's gonna show us and the world. This dillusional POS has long lost any concept of reality with this invasion. He also has many ways he can fund his escalation and will get the money.

I agree...I've said we should have done this last year, but this year and next year will work as well. Get every and any Repugnican on record for their support for this regime and their destruction of the military and the ultimate loss in Iraq. Let's get a roll call of all those who think this war, at this point, is still "winnable" or even worth shedding more blood. Too many of these goons will attempt to play the "wasn't really for it" bullshit and having their votes on record would be a smoking gun in the '08 election.
