Unfortunately, one must be a subscriber to read the on line story but in todays Wall Street Journal, on page A8 the headline reads;

"Boeing's Boom has Wings"

Record orders point to longer up cycle for aerospace industry.

Boeing booked a record 1,044 new orders for passenger jets in 2006, eclipsing rival Airbus who will announce their numbers Jan 17, likely in the neighborhood of 750 - 800 new aircraft. Most production slots are booked for the next 3 years with an updated 747 model posting a sizable sales increase.


Good news for the Seattle area and the many thousands of workers at Boeing and it's suppliers.

1. I was reading (on DU) a month or so ago about how Scarebus

er...Airbus was going to take over the market from Boeing and how it was time to start shorting Boeing stock.

2. Don't count Boeing out...not by a long shot....

Airbus has had massive delays in getting out its A380, so much so that last month, FEDEX cancelled its orders for the large planes and placed orders for Boeings.

I read a few weeks back that up to 50% of the international fleet will be replaced in the next 10 to 15 years. Lots of business out there.
