5. You know what? Sometimes this works.

One of our former foster kids was hell bent on being a problem for everyone and was just beginning to get violent. She got to where she was testing us and the school by being extremely physically aggressive with light pushing, spitting etc but just short of hitting. We allowed the school to have her arrested when she lightly shoved another student.

Getting the crap scared out of her by a helpful "bad cop" along with us and the teacher being supportive of her and encouraging her to allow us to help her make change instead of such a horrible thing happening again did the trick. After that she was willing to cooperate in learning better forms of conflict resolution.

We don't know the full story because the school is very limited in what they can say. I know from my own experience that it is not uncommon for students with behavioral disorders to do things like this, especially if they are being told to do something they don't want to do. Last year, at my own school there was a student there was a student who would routinely vomit or urinate on himself as a way of getting out of doing things. If the parents are uncooperative there is very little schools can do.

I don't blame them.

This is a parenting/discipline problem that should not involve police, and if the school had properly trained staff this would not be a problem.

It's certainly possible that she's using it for attention/disruption, but even if that's the case, it's not a matter (IMHO, of course) that ought to involve being charged with disorderly conduct.
