NO MO SNO!!!!
Denver here.

We've had a pretty bad drought for the past 7-8 years. And I know we need moisture. But not in one sitting. 4-8 more inches today!

Enough is enough....UNCLE!!!!!!

You need a change in the weather. It's raining in Ohio - and I was outside in my barefeet on Tuesday.

Same deal most everywhere, unless one goes up real high. The mts. in the Swiss Engadine should have some snow since those mts. are higher.

17. I sure would like to visit that place.
My dad was there during WWII and he always said it was very beautiful. Did you like The Sound of Music? I still enjoy the opening scences and the views of Salzberg. Hope you guys get some snow though, I hear the ski resorts are in a fix.

25. I went to Salzburg`s Xmas markt
As with the larger city markets, it didn`t have a downhome feel but was rather crowded and touristed. The best markts are in the smaller towns, which have the best spiced wine, and you can usually find Grandma or Grandpa knitting socks for sale. The best socks are the ones with mohair--which kept me very warm today trudging through the melted snow. Handmade socks, the brighter the better, are a good way to remember one`s travels. :)

26. I once got a knitted stocking cap from Europe
for Christmas when I was around 10 or 11. Maybe from Norway or even in your area. It was beautiful and so colorful. I think of it from time to time and wish I still had it. All these caps today are made of synthetic material. But hand knitted socks...I'm there..I have a whole drawer full of socks.

30. France`s Xmas markts are a lot of fun
full of homemade socks, jams, soaps, breads, and so forth.

Salzburg has wonderful architecture and history, and I think it`s best to visit it during a warmer season. Heading out into the Saltzkammergut from Salzburg is breathtaking.

13. Really? I heard a report on NPR radio last evening that
it had finally begun to snow in the Alps (and the ski area manager they were interviewing was looking forward to going skiing this morning.)

This caused me to remark to my companion how strange these times have become when 'snowing in the Alps in January' is NEWS.

23. Thanks for that report. Here I was under the impression that
everything might be getting a bit better in the Alps.

Sounds like the the owner/operators of the lodges/resorts there are doing a heck of a great job being creative to keep some people coming up to the mountains. Good on them.

Hope you all get some snow up there too!

Peace,
M_Y_H

27. A German told me yesterday
that she expects in ten years an end to the German ski resorts...there just won`t be enough snow. In Austria the resorts made their own snow, day and night.

There was a ski jumping competition the other day. Germany held the IV (I think) Winter Olympics in '36. They would have sponsored the one after that had it not started the war. It's incredible when one thinks of how winter sports has expanded since then. What a pity the weather isn't cooperating to support the economics of ski jumping, slalom, and so forth.

7. El Nino...
Spanish for.....the....NINO!

El Nino generally means warm winters and wet springs for us.

This has just gotten ridiculous. The roads still aren't clear from the first storm. And with our sun here...generally the snow melts in a few days.

Not this time. I still have 2 feet pile up in my front yard. My street had at least developed icey ruts...after two weeks. Now they're filled back up.

It's actually getting depressing.

11. Extreme weather patterns.
And I mean EXTREME! My Mother was born ('46) and raised here. She doesn't remember this much snow in such a short period...ever.

We have the occasional big storms. Part of living near the mountains. But not over and over.

Have you guys seen the footage of the plains East of Denver? Ridiculous.

we could use some snow here in the midwest. the winter leisure time industries and resorts are taking a beating because of the open winter. the closest snow is in the upper wisconsin / michigan areas and that`s only a few inches...

21. At least you people in Denver know how to handle it
Yes, I know it's a lot, but when you (or us here in Wisconsin) get a lot of snow, you have the plows and snowblowers to deal with it. I feel worse when Florida gets sub freezing weather, or when we get 90 degrees plus. But that's just me.

29. And another one coming next week
Something is sucking a ton of moisture out of the Gulf. And why the fuck are we going down to ZERO tonight but it's too warm for ice fishing in Minnesota??

I can't remember the last time I shoveled snow. Usually the sun melts it in a day or so. And I've never seen anything like this.... having been here since the mid 70's.

This has to be putting a huge financial burden on all the local towns/cities. I'm sure no one budgeted for this. Our street is still not plowed since the 1st snow storm and it's getting worst. I had to drive into my neighbors yard this morning to avoid going into "the pit of hell" so I could get to our house.

I'm sick of it. I loooooove winter but if I wanted this much "winter" I'd move to the mountains.

Seriously, I love Colorado and Colorado people. Nicest, most polite, and friendliest ski people on earth.

Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 03:05 PM by Blue_In_AK
Anchorage is close to record-breaking for amount of snow in one season. We've had about five feet so far here in town which is almost unprecedented for this early in the winter. It's beautiful but we're running out of places to put it. Alyeska Ski Resort south of here has over 25 feet now.

37. Conifer, Colorado here. 8,500 feet elevation, 1.5 feet of new snow.
The third Friday in a row of not being able to go to work. Nobody in Colorado can drive in the snow because we usually don't have it sticking around long enough to make an impact. I do have to say, though, that Denver's side streets have been in horrible condition for two weeks. And thank goodness I'm past breeding age, because the bouncing around in downtown Denver has damaged my internal organs.

38. Welcome to DU!
I'm in Lakewood. I Heard this morning that I70 has been closed around idaho Springs. A truck jack knifed or something.

Our side streets here on the west side are pretty bad, too. Once you get to the main streets it's fine. But getting to them is like a roller coaster. I took the truck just to get to Soopers the other day just so I could negotiate the little streets.
