DEM Congress votes 430 - 1 on ethics! What gives with Rep. Dan Burton (Mr. NO vote)?
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 02:38 PM by RiverStone
The new DEM led House of Representatives rocked yesterday, overwhelmingly passing ethics reforms by a 430-1 vote. This vote symbolizes the accountability that We The People will hold all our lawmakers to on The Hill with the 110th Congress. Call it intuition, but I sense the American people are going to see a stark contrast between the business of the 110th Congress - which REALLY does serve to help all people across socio-economic groups - and the barren wasteland that represented the 109th do-nothing Congress. This contrast will be so apparent IMHO, that it will ensure a DEM majority for many years to come.

One lone rethug, Dan Burton (R-Ind.) mysteriously voted against it. Anyone know the line on this guy  or why he sat on his hands and voted NO to ethics reform? He must be in self destruct mode...

edit: spelling

3. He's tired of walking to reelection victories. He's giving his 08 Dem opponent a free ad.
That's my guess.

5. Anyone who watched the Clinton impeachment and
investigation process engineered by Burton and his assistant, David Bossie, knows this guy is a complete total 100% asshole. He was the guy that was certain and tried to prove that the Clintons had murdered Vince Foster. He shot a watermelon in his basement to prove his point. I think he also got caught in a sexual indiscretion during Clinton impeachment process.

9. yep - turns out he had a 12 year old illegitimate son who he had denied
exisitng for years - and finally (after seven or eight years, I believe) started paying child support, but under the condition, iirc, that he never have to meet the child.

6. I used to live in his district...
he doesn't have to worry about reelection. calling him a festering piece of shit, doesn't begin to describe him.

10. He's in protected Republican land (suburban north Indianapolis)
...but there have been rumors circulating that other Republicans are considering taking him on. Would be fun to see and he's just given them a nice piece of ammo.

11. the one chance at knocking him out of office, came and went...
the illegitimate child story could have done it had their already been a decent dem opponent. If I recall the story came out after the primary - when the only person who could be recruited to run was a loon with an arrest history (iirc). That is why we should always try to recruit and run serious candidates - never know when the tide might turn. Dan is a loon and a sleezebucket. I am not surprised that he didn't vote for the ethics reform.

12. obviously the vote was just a show vote for the republicans who,
knowing it was going to pass, wanted to show how they are all about accountability.

BULLSHIT. They had 12 years to pass something like this.

Sheesh. What a maroon. "No, I don't want ethics reform after the worst 12 years in U.S. Government history!" Sure, Mr. Douchebag...sell that one to the constituents back home! LOL!

Don't know if it was him, but.............I think that some of the new congressmen aren't too sure on how the electronic voting goes yet???? There was one of the votes on the rules re ethics this A.M. and voting was just about finished with all but ONE vote yea, and at the very last second the nay vote switched columns !! I was dumbstruck as I watched it happen. This is the only thing I can can up with??? Aren't the "newbies" instructed how things are done, or assigned to someone with the experience needed to help them??? ON edit..this may not be relevent to the OP. On re- reading the post I realized it was a repuke being discussed, and the incident on cspan this morning was a Dem. voter. Sorry, I misunderstood !!
