Small town Texas Sheriff ousted for (amongst other things)illegal
background checks done for a corporation and taking the money.

>>>>snip
Prior to becoming Delta County sheriff, Bassham contracted in 2000 with Grocery Supply Co., a Sulphur Springs-based grocery wholesaler, to perform criminal background checks for potential employees.

>>>>snip
The sheriff also said he received payments from Grocery Supply Co. from approximately April 2000 through May 2006 totaling $30,674 as payment for criminal background checks, according to court documents. He said he did not report this amount on his income tax returns.

As a condition of his plea, Bassham was required to resign his position as sheriff before entering the guilty plea.

But the most offensive thing comes when his predecessor says:
“He has been a great sheriff for Delta County and I consider him to be one of the finest law enforcement officers I have ever known.”
:puke:

This is a man who violated numerous people's privacy...costing many people jobs. It is crap. Pure unadulterated crap.

1. The guy who is praising Bassham is a Bassham friend (or crony?) and benefactor

He was hired by Bassham into the police force, so he owes Bassham a favor in paying respects to the man who buttered his bread. This is favoritism and cronyism 101.
