Majority of Americans View Media Coverage of Iraq as Inaccurate
Most likely to say coverage is too negative

by Frank Newport

A majority of Americans believe the news media's coverage of the situation in Iraq is generally inaccurate. Among this group, the majority says the inaccuracy is in the direction of presenting too negative a picture. Two-thirds of Republicans say the media's portrayal of the situation in Iraq is biased toward being too negative. The majority of Democrats say news coverage of Iraq is generally accurate.

1. Denial
People don't want to believe it really is as bad as it looks.

5. Those surrender monkeys on the Iraq Study Group agree
They said the media did not show how bad things really are there.

3. Ah, Gallup....'galluping' off into the sunset with the GOP
A majority of Americans on their little dreamworld polling list, maybe....the rest of us bastards are watching the real hell on YouTube....we know the coverage here is shit, but it doesn't show the real horror of it all, not even slightly.

4. Republics been spinning this for 3 years
I'd say time has shown them wrong. If not, uh, wouldn't we not be in this mess? Talk about yer no-brainers. Once again Gallup conducts a shitty poll. Another shocker.

6. I love your definition of Republicans
I believe that the reporting is way, way more sanitized than the situation really is. We read about bodies being found, showing signs of torture, but the majority of the reports don't spell out exactly what the signs of torture are. The American public would be too repulsed, and sickened, by graphic accounts.

We might read that residents of Baghdad have only 2 or 4 hours of electricity a day, but don't get into how bad that can be during the Iraqi summers. With mandatory curfews, and the civil war, it is a dangerous thing to go to the market to get food daily, but without a dependable source of electricity, food will spoil. Hospitals get invaded by militias, looking for, and kidnapping, wounded enemies. The coverage, if anything, very much under reports the true situation.
