Nancy P., in the Eyes of a 10-Year-Old

When I heard that Nancy Pelosi was third in line to be president, I asked my mom, "So if Bush got impeached and Cheney had an accident hunting, she'd be president?''

This week, I went to a tea for her with Arianna and my mom. As soon as I walked into the Mellon Auditorium, I noticed that the ballroom was adorned with flowers.

There were big trays of wedding cookies, baskets of Pelosi pins, and many old ladies.

Rosa DeLauro introduced Nancy Pelosi. She was funny, but she spoke much more than Madame Speaker did. Then Nancy P.'s granddaughter Madeline gave a speech about her "Mimi.'' Everyone was so excited, I think they forgot all about Madame Speaker's speech. I have to say, everyone had humor in their speeches but Madame Speaker.

1. I don't think you'd ever see that happen!
If Shrub was impeached, Cheney as Prez would quickly nominate a VP, and HE/SHE would becomePrez when Cheney quit or was also impeached. The only way you'd ever see Nancy as Prez would be if Shrub & Cheney wereboth in an accident and killed at the same time.

3. Not so...
The Senate has to approve a new VP,and the Dems would not do that if they had a chance to take the WH.

5. Two words: John McCain. The Senate would consent to one of their own. Voice vote. Unanimous. NT

7. What makes you think the Republicans want to encourage McCain?
Aside from their hope that he's so old he'd die in office? A lot of ambitious people have been waiting for George to go bye-bye.

11. They didn't especially want to encourage Ashcroft, either--neither Dems nor GOP, but
in the Senate, "collegiality" trumps all. There is NO way a GOP senator would not vote for McCain, and Dems would have a difficult to impossible time avoiding a thumbs up, too. See, he is a SENATOR...a combat veteran, a POW, of age, and if Cheney picks him, with those credentials, he's "qualified."

About the only way they'd try to get around it is with the "He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, not on US soil" bullshit...and I'd wager that wouldn't fly. They'd vote for him.

8. Ford was approved.
And what makes you think that the majority of Democrats want Nancy as President? Lotta ambitious people have been waiting for George to leave.

13. I don't think you can refuse to approve SOME nominee forever!
Of course they could forcethe nomination of amore centrist candidate, but I don't think you'd see rejection of more than 2 or 3 candidates before one was finally accepted.

4. Of course, and the only way to be SURE the Senate would confirm the nomination is to make sure his
nominee is a SENATOR. Thus, McCAIN.

Think I'm kidding? They confirmed ASHCROFT....it is a collegial group.

Here's the only way to make it work: Cheney takes the Monkey hunting, shoots him accidentally, and has a massive coronary after realizing that no one will believe it really was another accident.

In that situation, Pelosi is good to go.

2. How about this : Cheney is indicted
by Fitzgerald, Bush resigns rather than be impeached and THEN Mrs Pelosi becomes Prez.....

6. Indictment does not equal conviction. Hell, Rep. Jefferson was indicted, and he got a
chairmanship. Indictment doesn't equal conviction.
