Has anyone seen "Death of a President"? *Spoilers*
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 11:25 PM by babylonsister
I happened upon a bootleg copy and saw it today. And I got to see a glimpse of another presidential funeral should that ever happen. Ugh.
The bigger message had to do with blaming a Muslim (Syrian) for something he never did and the anger of Americans for this president.
The shooter was a Gulf war vet who had one son die in Iraq and another come back really messed up.
The biggest message is why are we doing this?

1. One question
Can I be totally against this war from the git go and opposed to everything this administration ever does or says... and still think this is a stupid premise for a movie?

2. I thought is was a good premise, provacative, but good.
They didn't do nearly enough with it, IMO, but it's not the awful "snuff" film that most people have accused it of being.

4. True. It's really not focuesed on Bush or his "death"
It's more about the political response to the murder of a leader, and what could motivate a person to do it. There's decent insight displayed in both.

10. I agree. Infact if felt more like a detective story with some pretty interresting observations.
Infact this movie should highlight to people why we shouldn't kill the president.

3. I've seen it.
I thought it could have been really awful, in terms of being exploitative and just bad cinema, but the documentary style and the whodunit elements were handled very well.

6. The projections for 07 and the angry demonstrators, and how they
were treated, were compelling, too. It wasn't at all as bad as I imagined.

5. I'm pleased some of you
have got round to seeing it. We had it on TV in the UK when it was released.

7. You should be happy your press is free-er than ours.
Sad, isn't it.

(free-er? freeer? more free?)

11. Well, apparently no media people here will touch it
but it's on the internets, so those of us with a fast connection can check it out at least.

8. yes -- the footage of Cheney giving the eulogy made me vow

... that I would do everything to prevent this from happening to Bush! You could just see the White House inner circle gearing up to milk it for all it was worth, which came as no surprise given what happened after 9/11. But mixed in with this was a genuine undercurrent of sympathy on the part of the filmmakers, for the fictional version of GWB -- who came off looking dignified and decent. I really felt sorry for his wife, trying to get to the hospital while he was still conscious. (A family friend experienced a similar thing, where her husband died in the cardiac ward while she was held up in traffic. This was in the days before cell phones were available, so she's always regretted not having being able to talk to him so he could hear her voice.)
