1. It's a lot more serious than that. A dry winter portends a dry and droughty

summer, and that goes for all the NE states. Drought isn't good anywhere, and I imagine the slopes in VT, MA, etc., are suffering.

On edit, and even if it were cold right now, we've had no rain, so wouldn't have had snow (well, there was rain on xmas and some on new year's eve, so would have had some on both of those days). But that's all so far.

If there is not enough cold weather hours there will be few apples. And this Texan eats 1 or 2 New York Macintosh apples every day.

7. Not just apples, but all sorts of fruit trees need cold time for proper fruiting

I have a fruit orchard, and everybody here in the Midwest is worried over this very issue, this and the fact that we're entering a third year of drought.

We actually got a decent snow this year in Missouri, back in December. But since then it has been abnormally warm and snow free, though we're at least getting some rain.

the increase in vermin in the Northeast. I hate shoveling snow, but I know snow is necessary for things to work the way we expect.
