Mrs. Shadow and I recieved your more than generous gift/donations the other day and I had to thank you all once again. When I initially chimed in on the thread that was started I asked simply for whatever anyone could give so I could give my wife a decent holiday gift. Well like the Grinch on Christmas in Whoville DU's heart grew three times too big and you all raised a ridiculous amount of money for me and two others.

I felt guilty about recieving as much as the others and I plan to donate some back to DU as soon as the check clears and we can get by the middle of the month but in fact, as Murphy's Law would have it you can't get a gift without getting a disaster in return.

We had a bad financial bomb dropped on us right before xmas. A substantial yearly salary supplement my wife's job had given us for 5 years was suddenly and without warning taken away. We were well and truly screwed and as close to being in the streets as we've ever been without that money and you DU saved us, literally. This gift from you was now our rent and utilities for another month. If I lived to 1000 I couldn't properly thank you all. Libraliz you are a saint and a goddess and you represent what is truly best in the human spirit that is so rare these days. Charity, empathy and compassion. They are hard ideals to uphold somedays and usually with little material reward but personally I believe in a higher force that will someday make sure such deeds won't go uncounted.

There you go making me cry again. Applaud yourselves DU for being true and honorable representatives of our Democratic party and of our species. Mrs. Shadow and I would like to kiss all of you in dark and happy places. I love you all. Thanks.B-)

but did watch DUers come together in holiday spirit to help out the DU community. So glad it made a difference.

3. I wish I could've contributed - my husband, 4 children and I are also

on the verge of homelessness. We have about a week. We've had several large bombs this past year. Its good to hear stories like this and to see the community reach out and help. I love liberals!!

7. I'm sorry to say but I did not donate either

because like you, 2006 was a pathetic year. I basically went for about 8 months without a paycheck. We are barely hanging on. BUT there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we will prevail, I've got some pretty darn good money getting ready to roll in again.

9. I've been absent for a while

and was unaware of this till I read your post. What a nice lift it was to read too. Very, very, heartening.

If we're unwilling to share and help one another, what the hell good are we? I think this unselfishness is fundamental to being a Democrat and a liberal. I think it's what separates us from the rest.

Cheers to those that rose to the occasion, whether with money or good will, and here's too the very best of good luck to you both in the future.
