Just for fun: fascism vs neoconservatism
This is the first sentence of the wikipedia definition of fascism:

"Fascism is a political ideology and mass movement that seeks to place the nation, defined in exclusive biological, cultural, and/or historical terms, above all other sources of loyalty, and to create a mobilized national community."

Here, I have re-written it to apply to the modern American "conservative":

"Neoconservatism is a poorly organized scam and increasingly fractured collection of unbalanced simpletons that seeks to place bigotry, bloodlust, sexual repression and naked greed, defined through whatever justification can be found or invented, above all other sources of loyalty, and to create a society of spoilt, backstabbing man-children."

Honestly, I sometimes wonder how these clowns manage to do so much damage. At least the Nazis were vaguely committed to some sort of ideal, however demented.

1. The 14 Points of Fascism
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos,
slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere,
as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in
fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain
cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even
approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations
of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need
to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious
minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is
given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic
agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism
The governments tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated.
Traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion
is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes the media are directly controlled by the government, but in
other cases, the media are indirectly controlled by government regulation,
or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in
war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Government tends to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are
the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually
beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a
fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are
severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Tendency to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher
education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other
academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is
openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to
enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and
even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a
national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and
associates who appoint each other to government positions and use
governmental power and authority to protect their friends from
accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources
and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government
leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other
times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even
assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting
numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media.
Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or
control elections.

4. Hey this sounds familiar
These 14 points of Fascism sound eerily familiar. Thats what life is like in the United States. I just finished a 4000 level college course on The The Third Reich. It was basically the history of Germany from 1871 (end of the Franco-Prussian War) until 1946 (introduction of the Marshal Plan). Every single thing that was wrong with German society is wrong with our society. The only difference between us and Nazi Germany is the outright and open extermination of an entire race of people. Oh wait, we just started doing that. Then I would say that the only difference would be that Germany was not the most powerful nation on earth, and we are, therefore no body dares to try and stop what we are doing, or else George W. Bush will pull out his 6 shooter and take aim at them. We also aren't attacking any nations with any kind of power. So there is little resistance.

George W. Bush
God Bless America

The Nazi's
God Save The Fuhrer

They both invoke God, which one has God on their side?

3. Neoconservatives
Followers of the philosophy of the late German Jewish political philosopher Leo Strauss (1899-1973), who taught at the University of Chicago.

See "Leo Strauss' Philosophy of Deception", by Jim Lobe, AlterNet

Not all Conservatives are Neoconservatives.

8. Isn't it interesting that Strauss, a Jew who fled Nazi Germany
essentially repackaged Nazism into neo-conservatism. All he had to do was remove Hitler's anti-Semitism and substitute blind support for whatever insane actions the Israeli government chooses to commit. Neo-conservatism is therefore the mirror image of Nazism.

History has a sense of humor, or at least irony.

9. Comparisons (Just a Few of Many)
Nazi's:
Demonize Jews, Gays, Handicapped
Marriage Act (Aryans:Jews)

Neoncons:
Demonize Liberals, Gays, Muslims
Marriage Amendment (homophobia)

5. They are both the same ...
Same with the neo-liberals.

Merger of state and industry/capital is a key component to fascism. Throw the neo-conservatives/neo-liberals in with the rest of them.

Most neo-conservatives are ex-trotskists and followers of the elitist deceptionary tactics of Leo Strauss.

Definitely fascists.

7. Neocons find fascism useful for keeping the masses in line.
Neocons don't necessarily subscribe to right wing principles of blood, nation, or faith,
but they like wealth and power. As long as they can find a place for themselves near
the top, authoritarianism serves them well. The state's power will secure their wealth
and keep ordinary people down.

10. I don't think it's a fair comparassion.
Neo-conservatism is primarily a foreign policy ideology. It's exteme expansionism or imperialism or intervensionism or whatever you want to call it. The neo-con believes that diplomacy ties your power down and allows your enemy to grow strong, so you have to use force to protect and expand your interests all over the world.

A fascist neocon is certainly possible and probably the most likely neo-con. However, think of someone like Joe Lieberman. He is a neoconservative, in my view, due to his foreign policy, however he is a moderate liberal on the domestic front.

There's a lot of fascists neocons in government now, but neocons come in all stripes, even liberal. Beware.

11. But this is my point..
Simply saying "the neo-con believes" is to grossly overestimate them. For those at the top, neoconservatism is a scam. These fuckers don't believe in anything except getting rich, but they know which buttons to push.

As for their robot followers, they'll believe whatever they're told to believe. If Karl Rove discovered some way to get disgustingly rich by spreading peace and love and decided to push it on the neocon faithful, every single stupid fuck at Free Republic would become a pacifist tomorrow.

12. At least Mussolini was honest about his ideology.
The neocons try and pass themselves off as lovers of freedom and liberty as they wipe their ass with the Constitution.

14. It looks like the family trait continues...
I read a story in the Guardian today about Mussolini's daughter, who, when asked to defend her continuing advocacy of fascism, replied: "It's better than being a faggot."
