Where was the 'christian' Right when THIS happened?
"Suffolk's hate crimes unit is investigating the destruction of an eight-foot-tall menorah in St. James yesterday. A nearby nutcracker and nativity scene were left untouched.
Police said the menorah, which is made of plastic piping, was left in five or six pieces on the grass near Lake Avenue. The bulbs, which the St. James Chamber of Commerce and residents light each night during Hanukkah, weren't broken, but the tops of some had fallen off, police said.
It was the first such incident involving a menorah this holiday season, police said. It was not, however, the first time this has happened to St. James' menorah. Sixteen years ago, the menorah was similarly tossed to the ground and left in pieces. Two years ago, the menorah was also broken, though a police source said that incident was not criminal.
Scott Posner, the chamber's chairman of the board, said the menorah incident wasn't being allowed to hurt the holiday spirit. Yesterday morning, the menorah was rebuilt, about two feet higher and twice as wide, Posner said - making it stand about 10 by 12 feet long."
