I don't understand the silence from Japan.

Notwithstanding whether the Times article about Israel prospectively dropping nuclear weapons on Iran is true, why doesn't the Japanese government protest? Would the Japanese support nuclear weapons for a particular purpose? As the only country having been the victim of nuclear weapons, Japan has a unique opportunity to speak up.

2. Actually, I'm more curious as to why Japan isn't hysterically

beating the drums a hell of a lot more about the whole global warming problem. It is well within reason to see all of Japan GONE before too much longer (and I'm not talking in terms of geological eras, either). If the ice caps pour fresh water into the oceans, and the Antarcting land masses begin to rise as the weight on them decreases, that water has to go somewhere. As the single most developed island nation (except, I guess, for Britain but they're too busy with Iraq to worry about rising storm surges) I would have expected foaming-at-the-mouth outrage at every opportunity.

But nothing.

3. They're busy working on alternative energy, expanding their rail systems, and

cutting back on highway construction. They give companies official props for reducing carbon emissions. Which is more than our government is doing, that's for sure.
