3. Not really...
The original schedule published by the Dems had votes starting at 6:30 pm on Mondays. Not exactly a full workday (they leave early on Friday, too), but Reps do need to report for work all five days of the week.

It's a huge improvement over the Rethug House "work" "week".

5. I suspect that work also includes getting bills written, research etc.
which is not done during "work" hours.

4. Yes.
The first day of legislation is Tuesday. The OH and FL delegations will be out of town, and some will be returning from an orientation.

"Even as Democrats filtered back to Capitol Hill on Tuesday in anticipation of the opening of the 110th Congress on Thursday, there was a bit of confusion about just when the 100 hours would officially begin. Would it be as soon as the new Congress was sworn in and began voting on internal rules changes? Or when the House takes up its first actual legislation next Tuesday?

----

And next Monday is out since the House, despite Democratic pledges of a disciplined five-day work schedule, will not be in session. The day off was scheduled to allow freshman lawmakers time to return from an orientation session — and others to attend the college football national championship game."

6. "... to attend the college football national championship game."
How many millions of Americans can't afford to go ... let alone can't afford to give up a day of work to do so? Some people don't get paid when they don't work.

Must be nice to have tickets ... see and be seen. :eyes:

8. Oh the false outrage!
Here we go again. Mischaracterization and false outrage. Pathetic.

Where have you been to condemn Bush's record-setting vacations in a time of war?

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

11. Because I want the congress
to work towards an end to the war and increasing the living minimum wage, etc. is being over dramatic?

12. I think they started the do-nothing-dem campaign..
way too early. Tweety got all hot and bothered that the dems hadn't ended the war, before the newbies were even sworn in! You'd think by now, we would see more plausible, better scripted smears.

10. Here is a link to the full year's House schedule:
Go to:

http://clerk.house.gov/legislative/index.html

Then click on "2007 Legislative Calendar" in the right hand column. It will download as an Adobe Acrobat file. To show you the difference from the Repub calendar, a typical workweek had Tuesday votes (not starting till 6:00 pm), Wednesday votes, and Thursday votes (often ending by 4:00 pm). That's it. It was a stretch to call that a three day work week. On occasion, they started Monday at 6:00 or went till Fridays at 2:00, but usually not in the same week. And, the Repubs scheduled longer recesses in addition to shorter work weeks.
