The 'Bush Surge' is likely to add to debacle

“The consideration of a troop surge in Iraq by the Bush administration is both complicated and dangerous.

“I survived a number of such troop buildups in Vietnam, and one of the things never mentioned is the dysfunction among troops already in place when large numbers of new troops arrive.

“When native language and culture are so different, additional foreign troops (ours) quickly become new targets. They have higher casualty rates, and in turn, inflict more damage on the civilian population. All of this is fraught with peril.

“We failed to heed the earlier French experience in Vietnam. Now, we are failing to heed the earlier British experience in Iraq.

“This is all a repeat tragedy, and any decision by President Bush to order a troop surge had the probability of adding to an already huge debacle.”

Letter To The Editor in today’s (Jan.7th) edition of the Arizona Republic from a Vietnam veteran.

1. Bush wouldn't understand that if it were spoon-fed to him.

2. That is the real tragedy in this case isn't it - Bush hasn't a clue!!!
He didn't think it was necessary to understand the culture of the Iraqi people from the very first. This is why the war has been a total failure.

3. Imagine - go to war and still have no plan after 4 years.
It's completely nuts..............science fiction makes more sense than this.
