Snow: "The president will announce a way forward that is designed to lead to victory in Iraq''

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/01/bush_ready_with.html#comments

<snip>

"We're getting close to final decisions,'' White House spokesman Tony Snow said today of the new policy to be unveiled. Democratic leaders of both chambers are passing through the White House today, says Snow, explaining: "The president is pretty confident about the general direction, but still wants to hear what members of Congress have to say.''

Snow dismissed a suggestion today that the president's new course -- which is expected to include a "surge'' of additional U.S. forces in a bid to accelerate the securing of Baghdad and other conflict-torn areas of Iraq against sectarian violence -- represents the last chance for Bush to achieve the victory that he is seeking in Iraq, which Bush defines as an Iraqi government that can sustain and defend itself.

"No,'' Snow said to the last-chance question and the new way forward that Bush will explain this week. "But the way it's been designed is to make it work.''

"The president will announce a way forward that is designed to lead to victory in Iraq,'' Snow said, acknowledging that some in Congress will dispute "particulars'' of the plan and some will call it the wrong direction altogther. "There's going to be a debate about it. There should be. We welcome it.''

2. His brain must hurt having to string together that many focus group-tested phrases
Even if someone writes them down for him, he still has to read them as though they make sense to anyone. That's got to be a hard job. He should have been a more honest pimp, then he could do the same job, get people screwed, and he wouldn't have to say such stupid stuff.

4. So, the original design wasn't for victory?
Pray tell, what was it designed for? Oh yeah, the Project For a New American Century. Where are they now?

16. It was designed to Balkanize the region
and is going pretty much according to plan. All the bullshit is about keeping us here at home baffled while they continue with their deliberate demolition of the established order in the oil rich regions.

Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 12:01 PM by ProfessorGAC
Exactly why would that be? Since everything he touches goes from gold to lead, why would we suddenly assume this silverspoon twit finally has figured anything out?

He's the arsonist. I don't want him fighting the fire.

6. So it took him almost four years to come up with his "winning strategy"?
I thought he proclaimed "mission accomplished" back in '03?

7. He's demonstrated his complete inability to make sound decisions on Iraq
for the last 4 or so years.

Why anyone would believe he's able to make a sound decision now is beyond me.

8. How can this idiot keep saying "Just trust me, I know what
I'm doing" when he has demonstrated the exact opposite?
This administration has no credibility. Congress should put the brakes on this fiasco NOW.

9. Take A Look At This Thread!!!
There are 5 answers (mine included) that are exactly the same. The fact that he is not capable of making things work is so obvious, that 5 of us (maybe more) bascially answered the same thing in a few minutes.

22. Didn't they roll out a "Strategy for Victory" a year or two back?
How did that strategy turn out?

And, didn't they also put Condoleezza Rice in charge of Iraq because she's the "unsticker." How did that one turn out?

I wonder how they'll repackage, "we'll stand down as the Iraqis stand up" ?

23. And..."there's going to be a debate about it"!
A REAL debate? Like with knowledgeable people who have some connection with reality and don't smirk and say they're going to do it their way anyway cuz they're the Decider?

Yeah, right.

Duh Tony. Everything designed has one purpose - to work. So what. It won't work Tony. Nothing you ignorant flecks do works. And ya know what? Things will continue to fall apart, as long as you stay in charge.

Deal with it.
