Fred Kagan, PNACer, on CNN now - promoting escalation of Iraq War.
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 06:27 PM by sparosnare
Fred Kagan is a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (vehicle for PNAC members, conservative think tank) and recently wrote a "how to" on what's necessary to 'win' the war in Iraq with US Army Ret. Jack Keane. Some asked in an earlier post who Bush is listening to - I think we found our men. Now Kagan is on TV, talking with enthusiasm about their plan.

Here it is - the Plan for Success in Iraq - essentially, it calls for a substantial troop increase, and an indefinite commitment of money, troops and resources. This publication is nothing short of insanity:

Victory is still an option in Iraq. America, a country of 300 million people with a GDP of $12 trillion, and more than 1 million soldiers and marines can regain control of Iraq, a state the size of California with a population of 25 million and a GDP under $100 billion.

Victory in Iraq is vital to America’s security. Defeat will lead to regional conflict, humanitarian catastrophe, and increased global terrorism.

Iraq has reached a critical point. The strategy of relying on a political process to eliminate the insurgency has failed. Rising sectarian violence threatens to break America’s will to fight. This violence will destroy the Iraqi government, armed forces, and people if it is not rapidly controlled.

Victory in Iraq is still possible at an acceptable level of effort. We must adopt a new approach to the war and implement it quickly and decisively.

Anyone who thought PNAC was dead and had laid to rest their ambitions to destabalize the Middle East and control its resources was wrong. And when is the media going to start exposing these maniacs for who they really are - greedy corporatists who don't give a damn about freedom, democracy and the value of human lives?

1. It's disgusting that they play up the economic aspects,
as if we need to save Iraq as a MARKET, not for any other reason (except to keep scaredy-cats like Kagan from losing sleep).

2. but of course
they are playing up the economic aspects. would you expect anything different? all of the pnac'ers are benefiting from this "war" financially. they have a vested interest.
