Sex 'cuts public speaking stress' (BBC)
Forget learning lines or polishing jokes - having sex may be the best way to prepare for giving a speech.

New Scientist magazine reports that Stuart Brody, a psychologist at the University of Paisley, found having sex can help keep stress at bay.

However, only penetrative intercourse did the trick - other forms of sex had no impact on stress levels at all.
***
Volunteers who had had penetrative intercourse were found to be the least stressed, and their blood pressure returned to normal faster than those who had engaged in other forms of sexual activity such as masturbation.

Those who abstained from any form of sexual activity at all had the highest blood pressure response to stress.

Exhibit A: The Clintons.

Exhibit B: Bu**sh**

This confirms everything we always suspected about uptight, sexually repressed Rethugs.

1. No wonder I could never do a public speech and am uber-stressed all the time!
Of course, in public places, who wants to chill with a stressed dude?

Vicious circle of a unique kind.

5. I doubt it.
They're as inhuman as everything else.

And that includes some humans. :D

11. Or are you saying I'm not good enough for a real person?
(A rhetorical question obviously, but I'm going to say it anyway.)

3. I heard this some time ago.
I imagined a whole new trend of guys approaching women in bars: "Hey there, um, listen, I have to give a speech in a couple of hours, and I'm really nervous about it, and I was wondering..."

8. Thanks for posting! I started my first class lectures today ...

And I was really stressed out! I could barely drag myself over to the classroom, I was so tense. (Having to carry 10 lbs. worth of books and course handouts didn't help much.) Some of my co-workers reported feeling the same way, and they're experienced profs.

That part about people who totally abstained showing the highest blood pressure response? Yup. One more data point for them.

Oh, and commenting on a thread in another forum about Al Gore's incredible marathon presentations ...this could be a clue as to how he does it (hey, we've seen him kissing Tipper!).

10. I have yet to see a public speaker having sex during a speech
As for myself, I feel doing both at the same time would be more stressful than simply giving the speech.

12. Depending on the efficacy of the individual performing the action...
... I'm pretty sure a few kinds of non-penetrative intercourse would reduce my stress level.

Come and get it, ladies. :smoke:

13. Oh, so THAT'S why Tony Blair looks so relaxed while lying to the public
And it's obvious that Cherie's parents never told her to avoid sex with non-humans...
