The president of the United States does not have the sense that God gave a duck -- so it's up to us. You and me, Bubba.

I don't know why George W. Bush is just standing there like a frozen rabbit, but it's time we found out. The fact is that WE have to do something about it. This country is being torn apart by an evil and unnecessary war, and it has to be stopped. NOW.

This war is being prosecuted in our names, with our money, with our blood, against our will. Polls consistently show that less than 30 percent of the people want to maintain current troop levels. It is obscene and wrong for the president to go against the people in this fashion. And it's doubly wrong for him to increase U.S. troop levels in this hellhole by up to 20,000, as he reportedly will soon announce.

What happened to the nation that never tortured? The nation that wasn't supposed to start wars of choice? The nation that respected human rights and life? A nation that from the beginning was against tyranny?

Where have we gone? How did we let these people take us there? How did we let them fool us?

...the role of the wartime dictatorship is to create enemies abroad to undercut the republic and its legitimacy at home. Where there is an enemy, there must be a war. Where there is war, there must be patriotism. Where there is patriotism, no questions or dissent may be permitted, because it amounts to sedition of the state and libel of the leader.

It's machiavelli 101. This is the way tyrants and dictators do business. It's political hemlock for anyone who tries to do anything about it. Demogogues stiffling free speech are part of the movement. Only a very bloody lesson on the battlefield and bankruptcy will put an end to this tragic death of the republic. Hell, Hitler thought he would win somehow until the Russians were on the outskirts of Berlin. These people today think they are invincible, that they can impose their will by murder and brute force. They also feel like the nazis did, that if we are defeatists and lack the will to win, then we deserve to perish.

Is Bush gonna leave a terrible mess for someone else to clean up? That's the story of his life. Too bad it includes the deaths and ruination of millions.

8. Great column, except for blaming Democrats for a Republican screw up

The Democrats have yet to offer a cohesive plan to get us out of this mess. Of course, it's not their fault -- but the fact is that we need leaders who are grown-ups and who are willing to try to fix it.

How about we give the democrats another week or two to come up with an Iraq strategy?

Anybody with more brains than a duck knows that the situation is completely FUBAR and there aren't any good options at this point.

Unfortunately many of the politicians, especially the pugs, are trying to figure out an end game that makes us look good and I don't think there is one.

The pug end game is to delay the inevitable until somebody other than Truthless Leader is in the White House.
