US names state-owned Iranian bank as weapons proliferator

WASHINGTON, Jan 9 (KUNA) -- The US Treasury Department listed the Iranian state-owned Bank "Sepah" as a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction, and said a ban on all transactions between the bank and US businesses is in effect.

"Bank Sepah is the financial linchpin of Iran's missile procurement network and has actively assisted Iran's pursuit of missiles capable of carrying weapons of mass destruction," said Stuart Levey, Treasury Under-Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.

With this announcement, any assets that it may have under US jurisdiction are frozen as well, he said. Sepah, established in 1925, is one of Irans oldest commercial banks in Iran and has a network of branches in Iran and offices in Paris.

At a news conference, Levey urged other nations to join in efforts "to deny financial assistance to Iran's nuclear and missile programs" in line with UN Security Council resolution passed recently against Tehran.

Levey said the Banks subsidiary, Sepah International, was also listed as weapon proliferators along with its chairman Ahmad Derakhshandeh.

2. Apparently, the bank used to be called the Bank of Commerce and Credit International
Just kidding, but seriously, people who don't know what that was have homework to do, they have to find out about the BCCI.

How convenient for the chimpster that we start to hear this now...true or not. I guess that they still "hate us for our freedoms".
