Snow Falsely Claims That Bush Said ‘Just The Opposite’ Of ‘Mission Accomplished’
Snow Falsely Claims That Bush Said ‘Just The Opposite’ Of ‘Mission Accomplished’

In today’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow tried to distance President Bush from his infamous “Mission Accomplished” speech, claiming that Bush said “just the opposite” of “Mission Accomplished”:

I think the public ought to just listen to what the president has to say. You know that the mission accomplished banner was put up by members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, and the president, on that very speech, said just the opposite, didn’t he?

8. No, like the middle-aged famous neo-cons of today, I
I think Tony Snowe merely labeled himself as a liberal in H.S. - as a "sure fire" way to meet more girls. ;)

Keith said, "We know you're getting paid to lie but could you at least do a better job of it? We're not all 3rd graders."

If that's not exact it was pretty close.

Keith was pretty hard on him, and justifiably so.

I just thought of something. I wonder if Keith's increasing ratings have anything to do with the fact that apparently CNN isn't covering for Bush anymore: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x3082621

or at least not like they used to? In all probability, they see the handwriting on the wall re Bush's popularity and a number of other things, but I'm wondering if Keith "telling it like it is" and getting soaring ratings (while Fox's ratings are falling, aren't they?) is part of the mix?

16. Sort of makes me miss Snotty. You could usually tell be his tone and
facial expressions that he knew he was lying and he knew the press knew he was lying (but would rarely call him on it). IF they called him on a lie, he didn't usually follow it up with an even BIGGER lie, he'd just clumsily back out and the lie would become an "unknown known".

Snow's such a pathological liar, I bet he even believes his own shit. Way too much time on FAUX. Reminds me of my brain-washed freeper B-I-L (also spends way too much time on FAUX).

17. Too much time on FAUX...there's his problem right there in a nutshell.
He thinks that FAUX is the sole (alleged) "information outlet" of choice of at least 90% of Americans. Guess he's fallen into the trap of believing his own propaganda.

Can you think of any other reason why he lies and spins so blatantly, constantly, and outrageously and with such a straight face? The FAUX sheep viewers suck it right up, so he assumes everyone else does too.

Damn, but I wish the press would start calling him on this. :grr::banghead:

Hey guys?
It would boost your ratings exceedingly if you called him on it every time he lies or spins something!
If only for the entertainment value... :eyes:

20. He's simply repulsive. Hate that eternal sneer, and his whispery voice.
Can't imagine he'd appeal to the well-balanced. It seems the psychopaths in the right-wing adore him, but they are so limited, and so desperate. They'd probably love to see a fundie snake-handler in that slot.

22. this is the one "improvement" they've made on 1984--they don't need anyone to erase history
they just pretend like it didn't happen or lie about it, and expect no one to call them on it (which has been a pretty safe bet so far).

were responsible for that ridiculous banner, after it was shown time and again that Bush used the same background and font at numerous rallies in the weeks previous. They already got called out and busted on that lie. They expect nobody to remember?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/10/28/mission.accomplished/

Navy and administration sources said that though the banner was the Navy's idea, the White House actually made it.

Bush offered the explanation after being asked whether his speech declaring an end to major combat in Iraq under the "Mission Accomplished" banner was premature, given that U.S. casualties in Iraq since then have surpassed those before it.

During the speech in May, Bush said, "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September 11, 2001, and still goes on."

The speech and events surrounding it were widely publicized and served as the symbolic end to the war in Iraq.

At the time, it appeared that every detail of the day's events had been carefully planned, including the president's arrival in the co-pilot's seat of a Navy S-3B Viking after making two flybys of the carrier.

The exterior of the four-seat S-3B Viking was marked with "Navy 1" and "George W. Bush Commander in Chief."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan told CNN that in preparing for the speech, Navy officials on the carrier told Bush aides they wanted a "Mission Accomplished" banner, and the White House agreed to create it.

"We took care of the production of it," McClellan said. "We have people to do those things. But the Navy actually put it up."

----SNIP----

Ah, but now we see Slick Tony parsing again. Notice that he used the same exact words that were used then: distinguishing "made it" from "put it up." What a joke: "the mission accomplished banner was put up by members of the USS Abraham Lincoln." Really? And here I thought Scott McClellan and Karen Hughes had climbed up the tower with some rope and masking tape! But I was wrong. People on the ship actually "put it up!" These people are fucking disgusting liars.

31. In "State of Denial" Bob Woodward...
said that Rumsfeld claimed that "Mission Accomplished" was actually in the speech until Rumsfeld strongly requested its removal. He said that "they took it out of the speech, but still put up the banner." (Not that Rummy is a reliable source.) But, we ALL know what the president said that day about MAJOR OPERATIONS being over.
