Tom Vilsack's resolution against escalation in Iraq

Governor Vilsack is not my favorite candidate at the moment. He did, however, make quite a speech today at his last legislative session as Governor of Iowa, proposing a resolution to oppose escalation in Iraq.


Here's a snip...

"WHEREAS, the has an official responsibility and a patriotic right to speak out on behalf of the people of against policies that will have a significant negative impact on our community;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the declares its opposition to President Bush's plan to escalate the war by committing thousands more American troops to Iraq.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the urges the Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives to declare their opposition to troop escalation in Iraq and work to prevent the escalation of the war."

"Departing Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack used his final condition of the state speech today to condemn the Bush administration's plan to send as many as 20,000 additional troops to Iraq.

"Now the president and the Congress are poised to make a big mistake even bigger," the Democrat seeking the 2008 presidential nomination told a joint session of the Iowa Legislature.

"Understand that escalation will come at the expense of families and communities here in iowa and across the nation."



He has an online petition to urge your local legislators to adopt his resolution against escalating the Iraq war. It's on his campaign website, and you can view a video of the speech as well.

Support for the continuation of the Iraqi war is minimal. Let's push it over the edge.

We need to finally take our country back.

Vilsack is the one to watch in terms of being the 'dark horse' candidate for President.
He is a moderate Governor from a rural state ring any bells?
When the electorate grows even more tired of the divisions in Washington then Vilsack could be just the kind of candidate they turn to.
One of the tragedies of W's Presidency is that it has created too much division in America and his bogus wars have gripped the country in fear. Remember the good times of the 1990s before the GOP tried to destroy Clinton. People yearn to return to this and Vilsack might just be the man to take them there.

4. You seem to have issues with the candidate and the poster

Is it because you have been stung by low post counts and insincere "I'm not a rock star but I'm rock solid" and "I am the only candidate who can touch people RIGHT THERE" type comments?

10. First, Vilsack needs to offer more ideas than just contact your representatives

and tell them not to deploy more troops into Iraq.Great non plan for someone wanting to be President. Second, I don't necessary want to go backward again to the Clinton years. I would rather move forward.

8. What actually is he proposing other than telling our senators and

congress people to not support the war's escalation by deploying more troops into Iraq.
Good, he stands with most Democrats on troop deployment, but does he propose a real plan to stop the bloodshed and bring home our troops as soon as possible?
This man wants to be President. He should have more ideas other than just contact your representatives.

If there is more to this statement of his that I missed, I apologize in advance, but I could find nothing other than the obvious, which I stated above.

11. He has said he wants the Iraqis to take some responsibility for their

own country. I guess you could call it the anti-Pottery Barn rule. We broke it, now you fix it. :shrug:

Not much more substance than that, after all he's the former Governor of a small state w/no foreign policy experience. But, like TV has said in the past. "it isn't about experience, it's about judgment".
