Media Matters takes up Spocko's cause.

for those who haven't been following:

Spocko took clips of some of San Francisco's most vociferous hatemongers on ABC radio, and played them back to advertisers. . and these guys are really vile. SO what does the Mouse do? ... Send a cease & desist order to Spocko's internet provider and they take his blog offline, even though he is legally within his rights to have done what he did.

If you have a minute, you might send ABC a little note in his support. This should be a PR nightmare for ABC/Disney, and they don't have a leg to stand on.

How can Disney support these hatemongers, and then pretend that they care about families? If Nancy Pelosi has “a bull's-eye painted on her big, wide laughing eyes", like Melanie Morgan says, how can a Democrat feel safe at Disney World? And that goes double for any poor Muslim American, since the listeners of Brian Sussman somehow get the idea that it’s perfectly OK to harass and humiliate them.

And yet Spocko is the one that gets in trouble? Thank heavens he alerted those of us fortunate enough to be out of earshot of this particular batch of lunatics. I live in the NY Metro area. I will be on the lookout for similar inflammatory rhetoric (which is so profoundly un-American that it staggers the imagination) supported by ABC and the Disney family of products.

I get 1/2 way into my letter and get mad all over again. It's hard for me not to go over the edge when I get riled.

The thing to remember here is that ABC/Disney is the bad guy... The advertisers on these hatefests often don't know what kind of company they've gotten themselves in with. They see "Disney" and think that the shows will be family friendly. They've been DUPED!

So, let me get this straight: A blogger posts actual hate filled, racist tapes that some wingnuts spewed all over the radio, like bloggers do on the Internet millions of times, and then you want to sue him? I thought Disney was all about wholesome fun, not about smothering objections against something so vile and disgusting, that Disney might not want to support such garbage.

And then we wonder why so much of the American media is the laughing stock of the world. We wonder why it is that grassroots news is taking down this media. Maybe it's because Americans like Spocko are embarrassed enough to speak out about what it ignores. I hope the world is watching this closely. Because then the world will understand that most Americans are not like those horrible and evil talk show people you appear to support. A real America is all about people who actually are wholesome and care about their neighbors enough to stand up for them even if they are different than themselves. A real American would die to allow these hate mongers to speak their hate, but they would *never* fund them or support them financially. A real American knows immediately that your cease and desist order should be sent to these disgusting talk show hosts to let them know, even though we all support their right to speak it, you could never financially support their vile hate mongering, not to someone who points out such speech!

Like my 16 month old little girl who loves him to pieces, I could care less if Tigger playfully punches a kid with a camera. But I do care when Disney and ABC sucker punches an individual for trying to make it aware that it is supporting such an embarrassment to our country as these people have been. In order to protect this little girl I have a moral duty to protect, I will direct her attention to other more wholesome characters who promote tolerance until Disney recognizes how it can poison America by financially backing hate talk and war mongering and wants to kill the voice of someone who points it out.

I bump into you and do not say "excuse me". This is hate speech. When anyone calls it by a lesser name that diminishes it as if it has less power. But we know the power of hate speech. We see the results in our culture and government everyday. This is the tactic that the right wind uses to diminish their spread of hate.

"It's a joke...can't you take a joke...typical librul, they can't even recognize a joke"

They want you to believe that it is nothing more than a joke or rudeness so that you won't worry about it and accept it without question. You may not like it or listen to their hatefests on the public airwaves but you are not going to get all upset about it and DO something about it.

And that is how all of the right wing hatemongers operate. And we have seen the results. The swiftboating of anyone who speaks out against them. The corporate media picks up the lies of the swiftboaters and repeats them ad nauseum. They justify that they are "just reporting a story" but they do not repeat what was said originally, unless it is severely edited and/or taken out of context.

Yet the followers of the hate mongers have no qualms about acting on the vile suggestions of their leaders. They have no problems hurting other people. They have no problems sending a white powder in the mail or shooting someone or hitting them. Whatever their shriveled little heart yearns for at that moment has been justified for them by the hatemongers.

Please call hate speech what it is. Whenever the meaning or use of a term such as that is diminished it appears to justify its use. The only way that we will make a difference is to call it what it is. The only way that we will make a difference is to bring it to the attention of people who may not know they are sponsoring hate speech as spocko has done. He did hurt their bottom line and that is why ABC/Disney is after him.

And the only way that we can make a difference is not to support the corporate entities that sponsor the spread of hatred.
