Thank you Senator Kennedy.
You have spoken the truth. This war has been a disaster. Congress voted to authorize a very different war than the one that we are mired in now.
The President and his advisers have been wrong at every turn and their actions have made the situation worse from watching the looting of Baghdad from afar with the attitude of indulgent parents to the botched execution of Saddam Hussein.
If Mr. Bush believes that increasing troop levels is the only way to stabilize the situation, Congress has every right and indeed the duty to force Mr. Bush to come to present a reasoned and well thought out plan. If he is incapable of doing so, Congress has every right to to take the reins of power from this spoiled child's hands and salvage what little remains of our national reputation and dignity.
Congress, both Democrats and those Republicans who know that this policy is wrong, must find the courage to put an end to this madness. Sadly, given recent history, I doubt that they will rise to the occasion and our children and our treasure and our national honor will continue to be sacrificed to appease one man's inner demons.
