Suspect stabbed Hmong hunter after being shot once in each hand
http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/203838,CST-NWS-hunt10.article

WAUSAU, Wis. — A man suspected of killing a hunter stabbed the victim in self-defense after being shot once in each hand, the suspect's fiancee told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Dacia James said she was the first person James Nichols of Peshtigo talked to after the 30-year-old Hmong immigrant was killed Friday.

James, 20, said Nichols, 28, told her a man appeared near him in the woods and shot him while the two were squirrel hunting. snip

Nichols didn't immediately report the incident because he panicked, James said. But she said she accompanied him to the medical center and that he helped investigators search for Vang's body that night.

2. Does something not sound quite right with this story?
I am still shaking my head.

3. maybe the part about holding a knife in his shot-up hands and
then using force with his shot-up hand to smash the knife into someone's body. Most people with shot-up hands would be rolling around on the ground screaming in pain, not wielding a knife.

4. Adrenaline does funny things sometimes.
Sometimes people will go into shock and die after taking a minor wound, and other sometimes they'll get their hearts shot out and their jugulars chopped and not feel it. Apparently there's some tension between the Hmong immigrants (who have a big-time hunting and guerrilla warfare culture) and the original residents in the midwest.

5. Nope, Wausau has a lot of Laotians, and xenophobic racists
so that background sounds right for this tradgedy. Does the story make sense? Well, meaning no prejudice to the case of the defense, there is often a whacked out story to try to cover-up a crime. So that perspective makes sense out of what otherwise doesn't seem to...

6. Many believe this is response to the six
white hunters who were killed and two more who were injured in Nov 2004 by a Hmong immigrant Chai Soua Vang.

7. High school mentality with weapons
I can't believe the survivors story in either case because I know that mentality but I also don't know who was the aggressor in each instance.

I have to say that "not speaking English" and then venturing out into an area where there is already animosity and lots of guns does not make me think well of this victim either.

But hunting with guns has always been somewhat dangerous for hunters. I assume that is why they do it. That and killing living things and our press has done a lot to make immigrants "things".
