What's with CNN these days?
Other than replies to other posts, this is actually my first post (as in starting a thread) on DU.

A little background: We don't have TV/Cable/Dish, so we actually can't watch any news. I do periodically tune in to CNN.com, Foxnews.com (to see the other side), and lately MSNBC (thanks DU for the KO referrals!). I've usually respected CNN as a centrist-right (occasionally a little left) source of news.

However, lately, I feel/have noticed a sharp turn to the right. Specifically, they seem to be doing everything in their power to bash Barack Obama. Ooh, his middle name is Hussein; Ooh, his name sounds like a terrorist that can't be caught by our esteemed gov't; Ooh, he parades naked on a beach. Dudes, what's up with this crap!

There also seems to be an anti-Pelosi/Dem schtick going on. There was a report on how a 40 cent minimum wage increase is costing a small fast food company $1200 (at first it seemed this was per person, but in the report it seemed to indicate that it was across its 43 employees).

Is it just me or has CNN been co-opted by Murdoch/Faux News?

Perahps it really is time to ignore all MSM, and just get news from blogs, Z magazine, Amy Goodman, etc.

thanks for reading,
Robert

1. We need to still keep the enemy in view
and we can't do that if we turn it off completely, IMO.

Yes CNN and MSNBC ----especially that nasty TUCKER, are as slime as it gets :puke:

10. You just noticed a sharp turn to the right, now?
I stopped watching CNN in December 2005. Ok, I watched CNN twice when Al Gore appeared on CNN on Larry King. Twice in over a year. I will not watch CNN for the present and the near future.

I watch CSPAN, NBC News and MSNBC when Keith Olbermann gets on.

2. And yet, just a few minutes ago, someone posted:

Heralding CNN's revolt against all things Bush.

I think CNN has practically become a Rorschach Test -- people see what they want to see.

3. The only purpose in watching
them is to keep an eye on what the majority of Americans are listening to. I know there is only so much one can take when you know the truth and see it being ignored over and over! I mostly watch KO and been keeping it on for Scarbourough for a while. I'll try and tune in to the others but I can't last long, it's clear who they work for and it has nothing to do with their job of reporting what is really happening.

Welcome to DU Robert! I think you will find this a place to learn, a place to find reality based news.

4. Well, since Wolfe got his "Situation Room", he's been down right
LIBERATED in bashing Dems at every opportunity. And he always has the WH talking points at the ready. I can't hardly stand to watch him anymore. I'll watch Lou Dobbs, but he's been on such a kick about illegal immigration that it's a cue to get the dishes done and not pay attention anymore.

When you consider one their "star anchors" was dating Rush Limbaugh for several months, and also take into account their newest host that they extensively promote is well-known to be of the "conservative" ideology, well...it's not too much of a stretch to see it across the board.

5. CNN took a turn right after Bush was installed the first time.

It has been getty creepier ever since. I don't watch it much any longer.

Stick with getting your infrom from what you have been. It seems like you are on the right track.

6. Fox News was getting really good ratings...
So CNN figured they'd get really good ratings too, if they stopped doing news and just doing conservative tabloid shows. They're not terribly smart either, because ratings for both Fox and CNN have plummeted.

7. I'm surprised you're JUST NOTICING NOW. Remember impeachment? Mocking Gore?
Turning Bush into a hero of 9-11? Promoting Bush's constant lies? Attacking Kerry? Attacking Murtha?

This didn't just start. It's been constant since AOL/TimeWarner took over - controlled by House of Saud and Bush loyalists.

9. Hi Robert, Welcome to DU!
www.mediamatters.org watches the "corporate media" so we don't have to. There was a time when I used to keep my television on Headline News as background noise while I was doing other things but they have been off of my TV for awhile. Does anybody remember when their news director went to the White House to see what he could do to get some of the televisions in the White House tuned to CNN instead of Fox News? I haven't watched them since.
