They are gutless cowards if they don't.

2. Young area man who has served in Iraq
said tonight that he does not support the surge and wants the dems to cut funding. Young wife of soldier in Iraq said the same thing, wants them to spend the money bringing the soldiers home. Has small baby that she is afraid will grow up without a father. Only the older people interviewed supported the war and bush. It makes me ashamed of people here that are my age, but then I know others that do not support either.

6. But can they cut funding for the surge? Or is this money they've already voted for?
Are you asking them to do something they can no longer do?

13. I'm actually not asking them to do anything.
I was just surprised to hear any opposing voices on our area news, because I had quit listening to it some time ago because everything was so slanted for bush. It seems the worm has turned here, at least a little. As far as the funding, I have no idea what they can and cannot do. I only know that there are a lot of people advocating the cutting of it.

3. They won't do it.
Chimp has put us into a position where we can't just up and leave now. It's just not that simple, he has created a tremendous political problem over there and unfortunately troops are going to have to remain until we can figure out a diplomatic solution. A diplomatic solution that won't even be attempted by this nimrod. Rather than cut the purse strings Congress needs to move to get this son of a bitch and his cronies out of power and put some people in there who can solve it to a degree that pulling out completely becomes a viable option.

9. Our troops presence there is *causing* the problem. There is no "diplomatic solution" until we've

pulled out and allowed the powers in Iraq to build whatever power structure they are satisfied with.

Any power structure that we are associated with will fail, in Iraq, because they'll destroy it out of spite for our association with it.

Bush and the neo-cons blew all the trust we had, there is nothing left that we can do there until we've pulled out.

4. Haven't they already voted for the money that Bush will be using?
They can cut the purse strings for some later date, but not this one.

And they don't have all the power. They don't have the presidency.

8. DING!DING!DING!
Folks, we have a winner.

That's what they need to do but as you said, they won't.

They won't because it will *look* like they are not supporting the troops., which is just bullshit.

If you want to support the troops, then get them the hell out of Iraq.

10. Best way to end the war - privatize it.
Turn the tables on the war profiteers. You guys want war? Then you fucking pay for it!!!

The war would be over in two weeks, guaranteed.

12. LOL, except that bu$hco will find other ways to fund his illegal occupation of Iraq.
Cutting off funding will only give the administration and the corporate owned media the fuel they need to blame the Democrats for not supporting the troops, as if they needed any. bush will do what he wants and he will find a way to finance it.

14. You're assuming we're dealing with a SANE, rational and non-stubborn person.
This guy is so stubborn he would willingly send thousands of people to their deaths - and then he'd blame the Dems on it to boot. He wouldn't feel one ounce of remorse either.
