Explain to me why you would watch this speech.
Are you a masochist? Do you enjoy yelling at the teevee?

The full text, minus the slurring and mispronunciations, will be available in about an hour after he's done. It's not like the SOTU, he's gonna be talking in front of a library full of books he's never read. Why in the WORLD would you watch it live???

C'mon people. Read a book, watch the test pattern, talk to me :).

Don't torture yourself.

13. ah...I voted for them
because I thought they were less likely to take envelopes full of cash to vote in a certain way, and because they weren't terrifying relgious types.

I don't think any of them have the b*lls to actually stop the war. That might make them less likely to get elected. (eyes rolling)

4. Welcome to DU, Flashlighter!
I'm not going to watch, but I would if it was convenient.

The reason I would watch is so I could come here and trash on him.

10. because I love history
and this speech (slurring and all) will be historical.
It might just be a little historical, like a comma.
Or it might be where Bush shows us the brick wall at the back of the theater, to use F.X. Zappa's famous quote.

I really fear that tonight, Bush crosses the rubicon.

33. I'm with you, realpolitik.
This is history in the making. A turning point (I hope) in the downfall of the President. Even Chris Matthews says that this is Bush's next-to-last chance.

I think that, in some small way, I owe it to the future to pay attention to this small, foolish man.

36. He was so robotic
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 09:52 PM by realpolitik
His affect was flatter than Abilene KS.
I think there was some botox action in the lip area.

His eyes seemed fearful and his forehead was very tense.

If he walked into my old ER he'd get a psych consult and a drug screen.

12. It's history, and you're going to miss it!
I certainly understand why some don't want to watch, but I look at it as "being there" during a historical (hysterical?) speech. I probably would have listened to all of Hitler's speeches too, had I been trapped in Nazi Germany during his reign.

17. This is supposed to be our president...
our white house... our government... our reputation.

This poser has taken it all and turned it into shit.

You bet I want to know every word he utters, every lie he tells and I want to watch his eyes as he's delivering his sermon.

I like feeling my anger and turning it into something useful... like when I go to work tomorrow and talk to people. I'll be well armed against the bullshit I'll have to hear from others.

I can only take B*sh if it's immediately followed by commentary by Jon Stewart or Mike Malloy. I especially like it when Malloy makes drooling, mentally deficient noises while B*sh attempts to form a sentence.

26. the entire point of the speech
is just political maneuvering. The troop level has gone up and down between 120k and 140k a few times. The only reason for this speech and making a big deal out of increasing the level back to 140k, is to goad the democrats into taking a strong stance and possibly cut off war funding. If they did that he can blame the loss on them, and further the image that Democratic party is antiwar.
