6. Israel Gave Us The Hint
Israel threw out the hint that they would nuke the Iranians last week. It looks as though Bush took the hint and now accepts it as America's responsibility. To which I say bull shit. Iran and Syria are not our responsibility, and Israel's problems are not US problems.

10. Both Williams and Russert were clearly upset about
an earlier meeting with the president. The "rules," as I believe Williams put it, prevented them from quoting the president directly, but clearly something is very wrong.

14. I'd hardly call this "crying wolf"
If you couldn't read between the lines on this speech you may want to look over the transcript. This speech was about his plans for attacking Iran, it had nothing to do with Iraq.

22. Exactly. "Crying wolf" means scaring people about a credible danger.
Bush may fantasize about attacking Iran, but he doesn't have the political capital or a feasible plan for doing so. There won't be a war with Iran, period.

Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 10:13 PM by roamer65
...and sinks about 30-40 loaded oil tankers to block the straits. Then watch the Ghawar oilfield in Saudi Arabia go up in flames. Bush is playing with World War III.

28. 60% of KSA's petroleum production goes through one facility, Abqaiq
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 11:12 PM by loindelrio
The mother of all 'ball-bearing' factories.

Saudi Arabian Oil Facilities: The Achilles Heel of the Western Economy

http://www.jamestown.org/docs/Jamestown-SaudiOil.pdf (.pdf)

The massive Abqaiq complex is a critical element in Saudi Arabia's prosperity. After wellhead gas oil separation plants process the oil well products, the hydrogen sulfide-laden sour oil is sent by pipeline to Abqaiq for "sweetening" and reduction of its vapor pressure, making the crude safe for handling, after which it is pumped to Ras Tanura for export. Abqaiq's natural gas liquids plants also extract natural gas liquids, including butane, propane and hexane, from the oil. After further sweetening at Abqaiq, the natural gas liquids are then shipped to other sites for further separation and purification. Almost 90 percent of the crude exported by Saudi Arabia from the Gulf is processed and pumped through Abqaiq.

Wanna take a bet on where those Patriot batteries the Maximum Leader was talking about are going?

20. We don't have enough troops to hold Baghdad. But Bush won't nuke.
Folks who think Bush will attack Iran keep assuming that Bush and Cheney don't answer to anybody. They have masters, they have obligations that will not let them blow up the world for a delusional marketing ploy about the End Times that they've only been using to rope in the Fundies.

There will be no nuking of Iran by the US--take it to the bank. Israel we'll have to keep an eye on, but Bush is essentially cornered. Quit being paranoid.

Williams worried me more.
He held up that notebook and tried to explain that he couldn't quote but could only try to explain...and then he didn't explain very well. Russert tried a calmer approach,--he looked terrible.

30. Totally agree - they are really scared, so am I
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 03:37 AM by unc70
I think that seeing him up-close in an aggitated state, ignoring nearly everyone's advice, with his taunting of Iran made it impossible for them to deny that Bush is unhinged and must be stopped. I don't think they have quite realized how little time there may be to restrain him before he does something profoundly stupid. Arguing about troop levels, funding, resolutions -- these are all just distractions. We probably have only a few weeks, at most, to restrain him.

Since he listens to almost no one, the only remaining option may be that he be declared unable to perform his duties.

Would he listen to his mother? (This is a serious question.)

I am more scared than anytime since the Cuban Missle Crisis. While I don't expect us to use nukes, but I would not be surprised by almost anything else.
