Was tonight's speech also a prep for war against Iran?
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 10:18 PM by marmar
I'm listening to the discourse now on MSNBC, and I've seen reports from Britain this week about a flurry of Iran attack-related stories in British media over the last week.
WTF is going on?

29. Won't need troops......
If we go after Iran it will be the Navy who does it, from air and sea. Technically speaking we could pretty much wipe out the Iranian polulation without ever being on the ground. Not to say that it will not eventually mean ground troops somewhere. But I would bet good money that the plan is to try and bomb them into submission and we all know how thing always go as they plan them.

In my opinion bombing Iran will lead to world war 3.

2. Sure sounded like it to me. Said straight up that Iran must not
be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. And he said it after talking about all the resources he has moved into place in the region.

5. It sounded that way to me. I actually gasped when I heard that
part. That motherfucker is trying to get the war drums beating against Iran. I can't IMAGINE how he could get it approved, unless he had some fake terror attack staged. Even then, at this point, I don't think it would be possible. Unless I'm completely naive about our Dems, which I don't think I am. I've been pretty skeptical throughout.

17. Obviously, you haven't been paying attention...
Damn, I'm sick of posting this friggin article.
Is it clear to anyone now?
Iran is, and always has been, the plan.
BHN

"In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections."

21. war is already opened on four fronts: Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iran

:hi:

http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts01082007.html

....

Neoconservatives have called for World War IV against Islam. In Commentary magazine Norman Podhoretz called for the cultural genocide of Islamic peoples. The war is already opened on four fronts: Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iran.

The Bush administration has used its Ethiopian proxies to overthrow the Somalian Muslims who overthrew the warlords who drove the US from Somalia. The US Navy and US intelligence are actively engaged with the Ethiopian troops in efforts to hunt down and capture or kill the Somalian Muslims. US Embasy spokesman Robert Kerr in Nairobi said that the US has the right to pursue Somalia's Islamists as part of the war on terror.

For at least a year the Bush administration has been fomenting and financing terrorist groups within Iran. Seymour Hersh and former CIA officials have exposed the Bush administration's support of ethnic-minority groups within Iran that are on the US State Department's list of terrorist organizations. Last April US Representative Dennis Kucinich wrote a detailed letter to President Bush about US interference in Iran's internal affairs. He received no reply.

23. I know about the plans
both from news and commentary such as this as well as from my army boyfriend who has dropped hints, so I'm not completely naive or uninformed!!!
I'm just not sure he and the rest of the neocons could get them to go through at this point. I could be wrong, and perhaps I'm too optimistic about the Dems being an opposition party. I do think that this would be a significantly harder sell than Iraq and would also have greater domestic consequences, on many, many levels.

28. Sorry, didn't mean to imply you were "naive..."
That said, I'm not sure who you mean when you refer to
getting "them" to go through with it.
Who are you referring to?

As far as "selling" anything, in case you haven't noticed,
they do whatever they want these days-
They have long stopped an attempt to cover up the
fact that they don't care a whit what we, the people have to say.
Unfortunately, I am not holding my breath on the Dems stopping them either.

The only way it will end is if the military simply refuses to follow orders,
and I don't think that will happen either.

30. I meant
the Dems, Congress, you know.

But you may be right. Bush and friends seem to get their way without much resistance, regardless of what we say. I somehow was hoping that with about 80 % of Americans opposed to increased troops that "they" would HAVE to listen. It shows us just how much (none) power we (citizens)have. I'm still hoping that some Dems will have the spine to represent this will, I guess.

And I agree about the military...from history and from what I hear, despite grumbling and even outright opposition from military members, they'll do what they're told.

I remember the Cuban missle crisis. I was a kid and I was terrified. I think of the children out there today listening to a moron of a president speaking. I'm glad I don't have young children that need reassurance. I don't feel confident about reassuring anybody.

Now is it effective saber rattling? How could you spot the difference between ineffective saber rattling, effective saber rattling, and actual plans for war?

12. Well, as a matter of fact, yes.
Now all they need is a justification and wont
the decimation of a thousand or more "fish in the barrel"
cannon fodder make the perfect one?

Or who knows, maybe they'll keep to the original
routine and stage another MIHOP.

20. Very IMPORTANT thing that Russert said tonight.
He said they (journalists) had to be careful about how they report on the comments about Iran from the Bush special meeting with journalists today.

That means that the MSM will be touting the administration line instead of doing real journalism on Iran. Why the hell do they have to be careful? They need to do their damn job and keep the American people informed about what their government is doing. This is the same shit that happened with Iraq and now we have the same "code-speak" coming from Russert tonight about Iran. Rest assured, we are getting ready to make some confrontational move in Iran. The neocons are still in charge!

Stands to reason, too. This guy badly wants to be this big, bad-ass tough-guy, warrior-king at least once before he dies, having thrown away his chance to do it, for real, during Vietnam when he ran off and hid in the Texas Air National Guard "champagne unit." So if his Iraq debacle is being taken away from him, he's gotta go try to salvage his "I'm a WAR PRESIDENT!!!" facade somewhere else. Bring on Iran, then.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!!! Get him OUT OF THERE!!!
