Its not hard to see the battlelines folks
Shia:
- Majority of Iraq (al-Sadr and his militia)
- Iran
- Syria

Sunni:
- Saudi Arabia
- Jordan
- Gulf States (UAE, Kuwait)
- Egypt
- Formerly Saddam

Bush is willing to work with the Sunni's but he wants to threaten Iran and Syria and al-Sadr has to disband?

Bush is in bed with the Saudis. Could Bush be doing the bidding of the Saudis? Randi talked about this in December.

Where does Israel sit in all this? If the Sunnis and the Shias are fighting each other, Israel only benefits.

We are getting caught in an escalating regional conflict. This is sooooo FUBAR.

1. r.e. Bush in Bed w/Saudis
Did the Saudi royal family recently throw him and Big Dick out of bed, or is that disinformation? Hard to tell, but we sure do have a recipe for one hell of a screaming cluster****.

3. Good point.
The Shiites are actually the minority. Isn't Islam 90% Sunni???? But the Shiites actually live above 50% of the oil.

4. Syria is not Shi'a
I believe they have a much smaller Shi'a population then Iran. Any middle East experts out there know the percentages?

7. I'm with you.. I see alot of hopeful people on DU tonight
I'm not one of them. I'm like freaked out here.. He gives a speech about a surge that he's already started, putting the Dems in a position where they have to support it financially or they'd not be "supporting the troops". Then he tops it off with hints about the obviously already planned attacks for Iran. The guy wants a Holy War and he's getting it. He won't listen to anyone, not the Generals, not the ISG, not his father, and not the American people. He's getting his support from Barney the fucking dog. Pelosi better withdraw her "impeachment is off the table" crap, short of removing this guy from office nothing can stop him from starting WWIII.

10. dont believe me? heres part of his transcript from tonite:
Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity and stabilizing the region in the face of extremist challenges. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.

We're also taking other steps to bolster the security of Iraq and protect American interests in the Middle East. I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region. We will expand intelligence-sharing and deploy Patriot air defense systems to reassure our friends and allies. We will work with the governments of Turkey and Iraq to help them resolve problems along their border. And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region.

We will use America's full diplomatic resources to rally support for Iraq from nations throughout the Middle East. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the Gulf States need to understand that an American defeat in Iraq would create a new sanctuary for extremists and a strategic threat to their survival. These nations have a stake in a successful Iraq that is at peace with its neighbors, and they must step up their support for Iraq's unity government. We endorse the Iraqi government's call to finalize an International Compact that will bring new economic assistance in exchange for greater economic reform. And on Friday, Secretary Rice will leave for the region, to build support for Iraq and continue the urgent diplomacy required to help bring peace to the Middle East.

The challenge playing out across the broader Middle East is more than a military conflict. It is the decisive ideological struggle of our time. On one side are those who believe in freedom and moderation. On the other side are extremists who kill the innocent, and have declared their intention to destroy our way of life. In the long run, the most realistic way to protect the American people is to provide a hopeful alternative to the hateful ideology of the enemy, by advancing liberty across a troubled region. It is in the interests of the United States to stand with the brave men and women who are risking their lives to claim their freedom, and to help them as they work to raise up just and hopeful societies across the Middle East.

11. Israel
it is either the wild card, or fully disposable as a price

A friend of mine and I went to see F 911... and she finally got that one ... all my telling her that bush was not a friend of Israel would not go in, until she saw it with her own eyes

At one point Malloy quiped that Israel's nukes are truly meant for us... and that is an incredible grain of truth that nobody wants to see

12. Israel can sit back and watch its enemies fight each other
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 11:42 PM by LSK
Some have said that Israel would nuke Iran but it looks like its going to be a regional war between Shia and Sunnis with the US doing the fighting on behalf of the Sunnis (Saudis).

15. Bush is not friendly to Israel
truly...

And those who believe that really do not understand what is truly going on. Monkey boy probably desires Israel to disapear as a sign from the Lord

As to the pretzel incident, george was hitting the sauce... no conspiracy needed here.
