WASHINGTON -- President Bush promised a diplomatic offensive to win support for Iraq from Middle Eastern countries that, if anything, have become more hostile to U.S. policy in Iraq since Saddam Hussein's execution.
In doses of rhetoric hard to square with facts in the region, Bush portrayed the ordinary people of the Middle East as being behind U.S. goals in Iraq, in his speech to the nation Wednesday night.
And he declared the need to address Iran's and Syria's support for insurgents, without acknowledging his refusal to engage either country diplomatically, as many U.S. allies and the Iraq Study Group proposed.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/10/AR2007011002409.htmlMy favorite part of the speech coverage? According to the talking heads, "Bush admitted to making mistakes." Bullshit. I still haven't heard Bush, a single member of his cabinet, or any lifetime Bushite devotee say, "What the fuck were we thinking, invading Iraq?" Huh?
That pimp for Bush Tim Russert even mumbled something about Bush thinking that if he hadn't "taken out Hussein Iraq and Iran would be in a race to build a nuke-ya-ler weapon."
Bullshit.
We had Hussein under a god-damned microscope. He wasn't going to build ANYTHING. If Bush truly believes this he's a damned menace and should be on heavy drugs until he's healed.
Meanwhile, Olbermann picked up on Bush's threat to Iran and Syria, asking "is the open-ended war in Iraq being transformed into an open-ended regional war?", or something very close to that.
Durbin's "democratic response" was almost as pathetic. About the only thing that held any resonance at all for me was the statement that Iraq can't just "call 911" every time they need help and expect us to send another 20,000 troops. I dunno, maybe I was still worked up at Bush's continued insistence that he's right and everyone else is wrong and I missed something more substantial, but I sure as hell missed it.
America isn't, and shouldn't be, the world's policeman. The "we broke, it, now we need to fix it" argument can only hold water as long as you believe we can "fix" it, and very few people believe we can, any more.
Iraq is going to be a disaster for America, according to Bush, unless we "win".
Guess what, folks.
Iraq is going to be a disaster for America.
And every supporter of the war should hang their heads in shame, renounce their citizenship, and move to some shit-hole third world country in the middle-east.
