"Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me."
That's what the chimp said in his speech. So the obvious follow up question should be - "How would you like to be penalized for those mistakes, mr. responsibility?"

Who's gonna ask him that question? More entertainingly, how will the chimp answer that?

1. I say we strap him into a chair and make him watch this video over and over

Looks a little like Gitmo, come to think of it...

3. His small admission of responsibility for the "mistakes that were made" is a gross and misleading
understatement. All of the chaos in Iraq can and must be laid directly in Bush's lap. The terror, the killing, the devastation, and the obscene price that has been paid by our troops and by the American and Iraqi people along with the dangerous instability of the Middle East and the threat of World War III IS the George W. Bush legacy.

For the safety of our country and for the world, George W. Bush must be held accountable and removed from office. This is no "surge" nor even an escalation. This is a build-up to war with Iran.

We are fast approaching a constitutional crisis if we are not, indeed, already there.

IMPEACH INDICT IMPRISON

5. you know what frustrates me
The chimp will get away with doing exactly what so many have said he will. He will stall till 2009 January and then hand over his mess to someone else, just like he's done all his miserable life. And that means he will never be taught a lesson for being the worst kind of human being ever. Its frustrating, but I think that is what is gonna happen eventually.

6. Yeah, I hear you.. I worry about that also..but
I gotta believe that this time Chimpy is going to be held accountable. I just cannot believe that Waxman, Leahy, Reid and any others who have been waiting all these years to call Bush into account, are just going to waste their capital now that they finally have the power they need to add weight and validity to their investigations.

If you think WE want him to pay for his crimes.. imagine how it must be for them.

Well, anyway, that is what I am counting on.

7. He actually said "where" mistakes have been made...
He still wants to be able to deny ANY mistakes were made. Of course, I have been surprised if he had made it more clear (his speech writers understand how not to say the truth); such as by saying "IF mistakes have been made", which, I am sure is exactly what he meant.

10. Yep, yep I think you are right about that
Also, I thought his speech seemed different some how.. maybe it was just in his delivery.. and I must admit I avoid his speeches as a rule.. but it seemed far more lucid than I imagined it would be.

There was something, I dunno, rather odd about the entire experience.

9. He's absolutely unable to say "I made mistakes" so he
twists and contorts the language to deny his culpability. "The responsibility rests with me" is the speechwriter's attempt to make the catastrophic mess he's created sound a whole lot less fucked up.

"Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me" sounds like something you'd expect a teenager to say to parents who return home from a weekend trip to find their house trashed in the aftermath of a party. A US President who illegally invaded and occupied a nation, bombing the shit out of it, destroying its infrastructure, killing and maiming hundreds of thousands of people - all for nothing more than oil and delusions of empire - owes the world a forthright "The bucks stops here" followed immediately by "Cheney and I resign" - in disgrace.
