Neocon's politics of fear or Does al Qaeda as world wide network exist?
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 03:57 AM by Andre II
Must watch award-winning BBC documentary here:

"The Power of Nightmares".
Part I (beginning in 1949)
http://video.google.fr/videoplay?docid=-1002626006461047517&q=%22Power+of+Nightmares%22

Part II (beginning in 1979)

Part III (beginning end of 90s)

Especially interesting the third part as it analyses the events of the last years.

Btw the documentary analyses in depth the politics of the neocons to create a phantom for their politics of fear.

1. If it does, where are the car bombs?
One a month would leave this nation in permanent hysteria. Where are they?

3. Ever heard of Operation Gladio?

Gladio was a "stay-behind" secret army in Italy during the cold war, in place in case the USSR took the country over. Established under secret NATO arrangements, these hidden armies were in several NATO countries during the cold war. However, especially in the case of Gladio in Italy, this secret army (so secret that most people in government didn't know it even existed) was involved in conducting terrorist acts against innocent Italians and police, and then blaming it on the Communist Party in Italy (which was gaining in popularity) and radical leftists.

This documentary features first-hand accounts of some of the former Gladio members and far-right elements that associated with Gladio. NATO even used former Nazis to help staff the secret armies ("New Information on Cold War CIA Stay-Behind Operations in Germany and on the Adolf Eichmann Case" http://www.fas.org/sgp/eprint/naftali.pdf (pdf) by Timothy Naftali, University of Virginia.)

4. No matter the nature of al Queda,
you don't attack countries unprovoked and conquer them as a general rule based on guilt by association because of etnicity and religion (we're pretending the war on terror is real, not an imperial attempt at controlling oil and currencies).

6. My belief is
that sure, there is al Qaeda, but before we waged war on Iraq, they were a very small group and could have been dealt with by law enforcement and increased security. I still don't think they were/are near large or powerful enough to "destroy our way of life" as Bush claims. They would need the backing of huge amounts of the populace. Too bad Bush is giving them a big helping hand in this area. I think he and the PNAC people knew a war in Iraq would drive so many to their folds. I can't help but believe that they did it purposefully to create the enemy they needed to justify their going in and taking the resources.

Thanks for the link. I had seen that documentary before and would like to watch again. Everyone should see this.

9. It's as big a lie as the one we were told about the USSR being a superpower.
Sheep need something to be afraid of so the wolves can protect them.

At least thats the Leo Strauss ideal of American life.

10. There is no formal "Al Qaeda" organization
the word was first used by the CIA meaning "the database" of mujahadeen in Afghanistan. There are random berserkers and terrorists groups in the world, but "al Qaeda" is a bogeyman concept that sweeps us anyone the US wants to kill for any reason and gives a big invisible enemy to provide an excuse for increased militarism. bin laden never even used the word until AFTER 9-11 and that is debatable, since footage of him is visibly faked

13. Necessity for al Qaeda
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 06:24 PM by Andre II
The third part of the doc says something very interesting:

In the January 2001 trial in US about the Nairobi bombing the FBI wants to prosecute bin Laden but in order to do so they have to prove that he has a organisation (as the head of the responsible organisation he could automatically be accused). With the help of one witness (who made up a story) they get what they need. The "proof" that a world wide network exists.
Amazing.

more of a guiding philosophy than anything concrete . . .
