Is your Senator or Congressman/woman on the list
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 06:25 AM by Jeanette in FL
If not, call and tell them that you do not support the President and his latest scheme.

If yes, call them and tell them you support their position.

We have momentum on our sides folks. Keep the pressure on Congress. Call today. Switchboard number: 202-224-3121 ask for your representative or Senator. For a direct number: http://www.house.gov /
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senat...

Emails are great, but phone calls and faxes are something tangible.

Below is a list of Representatives and Senators who have come out of strongly on this issue. But the politics are changing quickly. So if your member of Congress isn't on this list but you think he/she may have come out against escalation, give them a call and check.

1. no link at the "if you want more information, click here"
I would like more info - but not sure where to go, per the source of the list.

My congresswoman is on this list, but senators are not.

5. My Republican representative didn't vote for the damn war to
begin with (good for him), so, while I don't see his name on this list, I'm banking that he's NOT in favor of this action.

And, as far as my senators? Crap - I have weasel Lamar Alexander and that brainless Bob Corker. I'm guessing they'll do whatever the first person to influence them to do says to do. Neither are leaders. Alexander used to follow Frist's lead, but I'm not sure WHO is going to lead them now that they're both wimps. SIGH.

6. Please call or fax him today
and your Senators as well

We have to keep the pressure on them. They work for us, not the other way around.

7. Thanks for this information
I'll make sure I phone later on today-it's too early for anyone to be there yet, I think.

8. Ken Salazar and other Colorado delegates plus others

"I am skeptical that sending more troops to Iraq will help us achieve the security that is needed. ... It will certainly put more of our troops in harm's way," said Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo.

Democratic Rep. John Salazar of Manassa said, "The president's request (for additional troops) is four years too late and 100,000 troops short."

http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=62966

Several Republican senators are candidates for backing the resolution against a troop increase. Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Gordon Smith of Oregon and Norm Coleman of Minnesota said they oppose sending more soldiers.

"Instead of announcing a specific plan on how we are going to get out of the Iraq quagmire, he is escalating troop levels and deepening our commitment."

Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver

"I think President Bush is on the wrong track . . . We have had four surges in Iraq to date and they haven't had any long-term impact on quelling the violence."

Rep. Mark Udall, D-Eldorado Springs

Chief Deputy Whip DeGette On President Bush’s Troop Escalation in Iraq

Washington DC – Chief Deputy Whip Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement about President Bush’s strategy of escalating U.S. troop levels in Iraq:

“Once again, President Bush is sending us in the wrong direction on Iraq. Instead of announcing a specific plan on how we are going to get out of the Iraq quagmire, he is escalating troop levels and deepening our commitment. A majority of the American people and military experts alike do not agree with this military escalation. Unfortunately, as we have seen time and time again, President Bush refuses to listen to anyone who disagrees with his position.

"I will not support any escalation of troops in Iraq. My colleagues in Congress and I intend to ask hard questions and exercise increased oversight of the President’s Iraq policy.

“It is time to bring our brave young men and women home."
