CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TODAY - Demand Answers! This must be stopped!
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 09:16 AM by TornadoTN
Alright folks, after last nights shocking - yet not so shocking - speech from Dear Leader, we must all come together and act to stop the downward spiral into the abyss. It is readily apparent that Bush is planning on and preparing for an all-out attack on Iran and Syria under the guise of their nuke program. Not 24 hours after his speech, our forces on the ground in Iraq have attacked and seized an Iranian consulate in the Kurdish territory in Iraq. These moves have been carefully calculated to provoke a confrontation with Iran, setting the stage for a US/Israeli assault. If this happens, the entire Middle East will erupt into chaos as the entire world gets drawn into the fray. There will be no winners - only losers.

This is greatly disturbing to ANY American regardless of political persuasion. Last night we saw a desperate, vindictive man that will stop at nothing to carry out the PNAC goals. As this escalation increases, we must call upon on our representatives from both parties to demand answers about what is going on in Iran and expose what is learned to the American people. We must demand that they reign this man in and say enough is enough.

I know a lot of people are pushing for impeachment and rightfully so. But this new threat is the single most important thing right now to save the American people and countless lives on both sides from certain destruction. Worry about impeachment after this crisis has subsided, but for now, we must use all of our power to stop this reckless policy (or lack thereof) that does nothing to further our standing in the world and destroys what little credibility we have left. People in the know are concerned - just look at Russert, Williams and Matthews last evening when they spoke about their meeting with the President. It must be stopped now and only our elected voices can make it happen.

Our very survival demands it from each of us.

1. I will be calling my Senators from RI and plead to them
that this man must be removed or the 25th Amendment must be invoked. We must mention that, that this man is mentally unstable to lead this nation, and the safety of all Americans is in peril.

3. I agree entirely
I believe its a viable option and we must get behind it, but right now we are the doorstep of making another grave and potentially deadly mistake that could cause the world to descend into chaos. They are itching for a showdown with Iran and it must be stopped first and foremost. Then we need to get them out of office for the survival of civilization as we know it.

Sure, I make it sound dramatic and perilous, but I sincerely believe that if left unchecked, we are at the verge of starting World War III - without any justification to do so.

5. They weren't the only ones
The Iran stuff made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck too. It was nice to see them talking about and highlighting it. I think they were absolutely correct when they said Bush is now expanding the arena.

4. could our state legislature invoke impeachment of this regime
our local representatives at one time I thought this was being done, in Vermont and some other states. We have to exhaust all avenues.

6. Just made my calls
To Senators Nelson and Martinez and to Representative Corrine Brown.

The phone are ringing off the hook. Ususally, I am able to chat for a bit with each of their reps, but today they just asked for my zip code and said that they would pass the message on.

Keep the pressure on Congress. They work for us, not the other way around.

7. Thank you so much!
I love my state, but I have two R reps. Alexander is a lost cause, but I was surprised to actually get an audience with an advisor to Bob Corker. It seems that he realizes that he almost lost in the last election to Harold Ford, Jr. and that he has to actually listen to everyone in the state. Its refreshing because his predecessor, Fristy-Cat, liked to hang up on Democrats or people that weren't Republicans. Don't get me wrong, I still can't stand Corker, but at least they are actually talking to everyone that calls.

And yes, they were swamped with calls as well.

8. I also faxed each one as well
They need something tangible in their hands to see the opposition of the American people. Emails are great. But phone calls and faxes are something that they have to handle personally.

Thanks everyone.

11. I sent this to my Congressman last night (please feel free to borrow)
Joe Courtney (CT-02) is a Democrat... but, I thought I'd write him anyhow.

Congressman Courtney,

I am a resident of your district in xxxxxx. I am also a registered Democrat and donated to your 2006 campaign for Congress.

I am writing to you to urge you to do everything in your power as a Congressman to stop President Bush from escalating the war in Iraq and to start bringing the troops home.

Last summer, during Operation Together Forward II, the military augmented their troop presence in Baghdad by redeploying soldiers from other places in Iraq to Baghdad. The results were stepped-up violence in the city and a death toll among US soldiers and Iraqi citizens that increased from month-to-month. I think it is insanity to try this failed policy on a larger scale.

Additionally, Congress has often used their "power of the purse" to put a stop to disastrous policy. The Boland Amendment in 1982 prohibited the Reagan White House from aiding the Contras in Nicaragua. The Foreign Assistance Act of 1974 established a personnel ceiling of 4,000 Americans in Vietnam within six months and 3,000 within one year. In 1983, the Lebanon Emergency Assistance Act required the president to get Congressional approval for increasing the size of US forces in Lebanon, while in 1993, Congress did similar in regards to Somalia.

With these Congressional precendents, and given the failure of the previous escalation in Baghdad only six months ago, it is time to stop any sort of escalation in Iraq and to start removing our troops from Iraq. After all, in May of 2003, President Bush announced, "their mission is complete," in his radio address after his "Mission Accomplished" stunt on the aircraft carrier. If their mission is complete, why are they still there nearly four years later?

Thanks for your attention.
