18. It's a matter of priorities. Many people CLAIM they want open government, but
have no clue who the lawmakers are who actually risk their careers by fighting for it.

The secrecy and privilege Democrats benefit from that because the corpmedia masters trust that wing of the party. Bill Clinton proved he will keep BushInc's secrets, and so they would have no problem with Clinton2 should she be the Dem nominee.

17. Now, maybe Gingrich belongs there, but not Kerry. He is as open and honest as they come.
Why would he belong down there? I don't get your point. Kerry has done more for the roots and the people of this country and for our candidates in 06 than anyone else. He has lead the filibuster on Alito, has introduced the most comprehensive and detailed amendment to end this war in Iraq, has had the Baker commission respect his judgment enough to ask him to testify before them. He has called for the outing of Rumsfield back in 2003. He has offered up ideas on energy conservation, health care, foreign relations, small business, federal budget. Etc.
I just don't see how an informed person could compare him with Gingrich and attack him. We would all be better served with leadership like his.

so, if you were interested in jocking Bush (or McCain), your "free speech" would not be welcome here.

Short of that, bring it on.

I once had a thread locked cause I stated that I convinced my girlfriend to vote only for (D)Kristen Gillibrand -NYCD 20 / the rest of the people she voted for were anti-drug war greens. All the other Dems in NY (Spitzer, Cuomo, Hevesi) won in landslides. The thread got locked cause of the green votes.

In fact, if the DNC had secured the election process in 2000 and 2002, you'd be addressing President Gore and the 4 yr old Dem majority congress today.

59. Money and timing of the convention worked against him.
If you are taking public money you have severe restrictions on spending after your nomination. The GOP moved their convention to the last possible date when they found when the Dems were holding theirs. All through August Kerry had to watch his money and couldn't launch a good defense against the Swift Boat Liars. If he did he wouldn't have money for the final weeks of the campaign. Their lies planted seeds of doubt against Kerry. But the real defeat came at the hands of Blackwell in Ohio. He manipulated the election to ensure bush won. Still the 15 state strategy was wrong, it left too little wiggle room for presidential candidates.

bush's nomination came so late that they had to lobby for changing the laws in one state to keep him on the ballot. I believe the state was Illinois or Missouri. I can't remember.

9. Good to see Gore up there!
I still say that Al Gore is the most experienced and best qualified potential candidate for President of the US. He is a visionary and has been proved right so many times. Not just on the climate crisis but also on other issues like the invasion of Iraq, the PATRIOT Act and the ongoing abuses of executive power by the current Resident of the Whitehouse.

Gore will be 60 in 2008. He is several years younger than McCain, Giuliani, Kerry and Clark. He is also 5 whole months younger than Hillary! :)

I look forward to reading his forthcoming book "The Assault on Reason" (due in May 2007).

Let's all find ways to help keep Gore's name in the frame for 2008!

In Gore We Trust :)

Are really salivating at the chance to run any Puke against Hillary. As if we didn't know it's their only chance of winning in 08. Hillary has none of the charm of Bill Clinton her only selling point is Republicans hate her like no-one else. If you want to energize the Republican base nominate Hillary. If you want real honest leadership at a crucial time in America nominate John Edwards IMHO.

13. Actually, Andrew Jackson was taken prisoner by the British during the Revolution.
He bore a scar from a British officer's sabre striking him when he refused to clean the man's boots. He was just a boy then.
President Wilson also grew up under Union occupation in Georgia and Virginia.

23. It was in the Revolution. He hated the British and blamed them for his
brother's death. That is why he kicked ass against them in the War of 1812! Jackson was Irish, Northern Irish Protestant, but Irish all the same... Some think he may have been born in Ireland and took on a younger brother's identity who was born in Carolina later on to make him a "real American."
There is no way Andrew Jackson would have been captured as an adult! He would have shot the fleeing men himself and been hacked to pieces by British swords or shot to smitereens before surrendering as an adult!

14. These seem about right intuitively
People who make their living taking bets are far more reliable indicators of real chances of candidates than partisans. Taking away all the visceral subjective and personal opinions and look at the real data on things like fundraising abaility, ability to persuade swing voters, ability to get past the primaries, and so on and this one looks about right.

I am a bit surprised (and pleased) to see my guy Bill Richardson that high on the list and equally surprised (but diametrically NOT pleased) to see theo-wingnut Brownback that high. I suspect they are so placed for opposite reasons - Richardson being someone who, if nominated, could use his personality, centrist well-reasoned policy stances, debate skills and excellent resume to win comfortably, but who stands a slim to negligible chance of getting past the much more progressive "purity" minded primary voters. Brownback on the other hand should be the darling of the equally purity minded and equally non-centrist right wing Republican primary voters, but would then have to rely on straight ticket Republican loyalists to win against all but the weakest Dem candidate, since Brownback will look unappealing to most moderate general election voters.

the same once the race starts.
Besides, Kerry is my choice and no poll, no personal attacks or media push to sell me the latest model will get me to change my vote.
Of all of the people listed here, Senator Kerry is the one person with all the necessary credentials and resume to lead this country. Perhaps, if he doesn't run, I may consider another candidate, but I can assure you it won't be in the top ten. I vote ability and leadership, along with honesty and ideas.
