You are correct, he currently has no plans to run.

Al Gore would be an instant contender were he to announce. Judging from all the support I've seen for him here on DU alone, and conversations with others, I have little doubt he would have trouble getting up to speed in terms of raising $$, support, etc., were he to announce.

If I were him, I'd wait until this summer, and when everyone least expects it, he enters the race and catches right up to Hillary, Obama, Edwards, etc.

Would you still support him, even if he waited until say September to announce his candidacy?

In other words, Gore is unique in that he is instantly recognizable, and would be a viable contender even if he waits to enter the race.

He builds more stature each day he remains outside of politics and campaigning, and his record as a VP and Senator stand on their merits, as does his work since '00 with the environment causes.

I will support Al Gore regardless of when he announces, and would vote for him in the CA primary if given the opportunity. Unless something surfaces to change my opinion.

We need visible elderstatesmen out there talking about important issues unclouded by hope of personal political gain. Gore has proven to be an effective spokesperson for an important issue right now. Global Warming in the end makes this brooha in Ira* seem like a tempest in a teacup. Putting him in office takes away from his ability to change minds.

Let him do his thing.

Who do you think sways more minds? George Bush or Rush Limbaugh? Politicians carry a burden. It is presumed that everything they do they do to stay in office. But someone that steps away from seeking political office is seen as having washed their hands of such a taint. This is about apperances.

is my second choice. I'm just concerned about what the press is going to do to Obama. They are already hurting him I think. Did anyone see the clothing bit on CNN - comparing Obama's shirt and jacket to "the only other politician who dresses that way: Ahmadinejad!" (I'm serious, they said that, and then they juxtaposed the images of the two next to each other.) Then the "topless" thing at the beach (Good God, what man wears a shirt in the ocean on Hawaii?)...That his middle name is Hussein...it's horrible the way they are already trying to ridicule this brilliant man. I makes me so mad. But, unfortunately, as we've seen with other dem candidates in the past, these tactics do destroy their chances. The swiftboating crap comes to mind. I couldn't even believe that shit got aired. But it did...
